Can someone please explain to me how the voting score on stories operates.

I have a number of stories published and I like looking at the votes & views I'm receiving, but for the last few days the voting of a few of my stories is going into reverse. One story 'The Bet' was on 306 votes a few days ago but has now sunk to 289.

I've noticed that at least 6 of my stories have been losing votes, and I'm just wondering how is this achieved. I'd have thought that once voted for, you can't unvote a story.

Thank you to anyone who can help clear up my confusion.

Ash

Every now and then the site clears out the fraud votes.

At least that's what I heard.

From time to time the votes are swept for ISP and time-on-page. With yours, they obviously found a bunch of repeats.

There are two reasons to vote for a story more than once. The first is to give it an artificially low score, as you might do if you hate someone. The second is to give it an artificially high score, as you might do if the story was one of your own.

It seems unlikely that you're here complaining that a bunch of negative votes were removed. So you obviously fall in the latter category.

The Winter Holidays contest is running now.

During the contests there is an increase in dubious voting practices. The site owners don't explain how the sweeps operate, because if they did some trolls would try to manipulate the voting even more than they do now.

The sweeps will take votes away from existing stories as well as contest entries.

Votes might be considered dubious if there are more than one vote from the same ISP, or almost every contest entry gets a 1 vote (or a 5).

Yes I can.

You have submitted thirty stories in approximately thirty days.

Evidently you have a very active mind, or there is something else going on here.

You are a fucking dumb ass.

Don't you investigate a thread before you reply to it?

This is a fraud.

I tried to read your stories, but it says that I am blocked from viewing them as they are under review from the site owners.

You wuz cheatin'.

Actually, no. I wasn't.
I have not voted on any of my own stories as I'm naturally prejudiced in favour of them..

I was just curious as to why the slight dip in the votes on several of them. A number of them only lost a single vote but one lost about 20.

I am currently writing a novel (or trying to, anyway) and I have just been writing these quickies for literotica to take my mind off what I'm doing in the main novel.

As for my competition entry, it was a fun thing to do, but I seriously doubt that it will be amongst the prize getters.

Interesting story, but not the type that wins prizes this time of year. Better luck next time.
