Thermometers again

Just a quick note to those who are newer around here, many reviewers, including myself, leave the thermometer on 3 (which says 50%) when leaving a message that the poem has been reviewed.

This does not mean we voted this way. The thermometer doesn't effect or reflect your actual score.

It appears that it does effect the score unless you use the original voting system beforehand.

WE, You keep saying so, but I don't believe it. I don't think the boards rating coding is that sophisticated. Heck, they can't even spell "submissions" correctly, and I am tired of seeing "(object)" instead of a poem count next to the "New Poems" listing. - Have you ever gotten an answer from Laurel or Manu on the truth of your assertion? :rose:

*smile* Not that I'm any sort of expert, but I think it's as eve said... Only because, sometimes poems are so slow to accumulate votes that you know exactly what's going on...

okay I am going to submit a poem.

It will be called DONT VOTE ON THIS POEM

and I want everyone to just give it a 50% with a thermometer without voting

okay?

put an end to this madness

I still vote anyway before I do the thermom thing

I'm just telling you what I read in FAQs, after someone let me know that I had low voted their poem with my 50% thermometer.

Yes, it's "View Submittions" and when your poem is in preview: "Allow Public Coments" Typos? :)

FAQ:
"You must give a rating to the story to leave a comment. If you have voted on the submission previously, then the vote you leave with the comment will not count toward the submission's total."

I assume this means that if you didn't vote previously, then your thermometer rating will count.

People, it's a fact that what Eve says is right. We did the experiment in the "in case you didn't know" thread already. I asked someone to comment on a poem without voting, and the comment rating counted.

That's right. I had forgotten about that.
Not many readers are going to check out the FAQs and know that. And the double voting system is confusing simply because it's a double voting system. Anyway, that's why I mostly stick with 100% and 75% now.

this is so fucking stupid

you shouldnt be allowed to GET to the comment thing until you vote

I am still posting the poem. lol! I cant help it I want proof with my own eyes

I do not believe what that says. The coding on Lits. old version of VB does not support such sophisticated mathematical coding.
Answer the question, please. Have either Manu or Laurel confirmed your claim?

PS: I still love your poetry and await the reopening of your website! :rose:

OR VICE VERSA??? ;)

The Bulletin Board vB Code has nothing to do with the rest of the site, though. The only thing in common between the two is the registration process and the cookies.

It's not a matter of belief, it's a matter of fact. It has been tested.

I never asked them. Was I suppose to ask? Make Lauren ask. She's good at hounding people for answers.

It would help to have a little note down there with the vote thingy that explains this whole thing in a few simple words. If anyone is really bothered with the voting system, perhaps he or she could put a little note at the bottom of their poem. Hey, I bet lit would take notice then and either "fix" it or... ignore us all. lol

okay okay I am taking off my stupid dont vote for my poem poem.

I still think it is really dumb.
and I feel horrible, I hope I didn't give people 50%'s
by accident.

You should feel horrible. You should write a poem for everyone you screwed over with your neutrality. Now don't you feel better? :)

VB as in vBulletin or as in Visual Basic?
Like Lauren said, only the bulletin board uses the vBulletin system. The rest of the site is coded (allgedly from scratch) by Manu. I read in a thread a long while ago that it is based on php and with a MySQL database. Both very much capable of setting up such conditions for vote counting.

Personally, I think it's a good system, and it would workk if people weren't so shy about being upfront with what they vote.

Hey all, I wrote to Laurel with my concerns that I thought I might have accidentally gave 50% by leaving the thermometer on default.

Here is a piece of her answer:

"Yes, the vote left with a comment does count, but only if you haven't voted previously on the submission."

She wrote right back and said she would see about changing the default and removing any 50% votes I gave the other day by accident.

I really am sorry if I did this to someone's poem.

Thanks for the research and letting us know the results anna.

I'm sure all of us who have done reviews are happy to know
how badly we may have skewed other poets scores.

Seems like we may all deserve spankings..... I volunteer to go first...either receiving or giving....I'm an equal opportunity sado/masochist....:D

And I add my apologies to yours to any poet whose poem I may have affected adversely.....

I don't care about numbers, only the words in the comments, but I must say you're looking very lovely in your av. :D

Honey, you didn't know. Over half of the readers out there don't know! How could they? It took me forever to find the FAQ info on it. I've left pleny of 50% while doing the reviews. I didn't know.

Why thank you!....Thought I'd treat myself to a makeover this holiday......and I'm not the kind of guy who does things half-way.
