Ever hear one that irritates the peewaddins out of you?

I got an email earlier today asking me to preview my choice of 5 different audio files, then see if they worked for me and to report back. The subject was Law Of Attraction. There are several Law Of Attraction coaches that I like. But this turned out to be one I can't stand.

She's an Australian woman. She talks extremely slowly and doesn't show a hint of emotion in her voice. At least it was only an audio. Looking at her is worse. She's straight out of the 80's. Short, blonde hair, poofed out and hair sprayed. Light blue suit (jacket and skirt). I swear I had that same suit back then. Sensible shoes. And a no nonsense look on her face. Neither smiling nor frowning.

I thought it was just me. But then my gardener came in. He said something about how he hated Australian accents. I told him, I didn't usually, but this woman! We discussed her voice and both agreed she had to go! I had to shut it off. I wrote back to her right away and said I couldn't listen to her because she put me to sleep.

I had a similar experience when I went to a group past life regression event. The leader spoke not only extremely slowly but so faintly I could barely hear her. She even commented on how she liked to modulate her voice like that because it was soothing to people. Not to me. It was just plain grating on me and I wanted to bolt out the door but she had locked it.

In case you were wondering, nothing happened to me in the regression. Here's the weird thing. Normally, I can see things easily in my mind. I can visualize anything. But I did not visualize anything that she said. In fact my mind was totally blank. As in I saw nothing. Just blackness. And I never see that unless I want to see that. Normally when I'm relaxed and letting my mind wander, I see splashes of bright colors, waves of colors. I can amuse myself with my own mind.

At the end, as the others were telling what they saw, I had to say that I saw nothing. She told me I was repressing something so I should book a private session with her. Chinese water torture might bring me more pleasure. No thank you!

There are some celebrity voices I dislike too. Such as Whoopie Goldberg and Joy Behar. Blech.

Ever heard a voice that made you want to flee?

I can't stand that shit, that same shit where people talk too low for me to hear them. Like that's just so fucking rude it fills me with rage. Like it's disrespectful. Plain and simple. I have partial hearing loss that can't be recovered so I would prefer it if we all spent every conversation shrieking at the top of our lungs, but I can normally hear somebody if they use a normal human voice. People who get used to being around me do tend to talk louder than normal, just because they get tired of, "What? Do what now? WHAT?"

But that shit really does piss me off. Talk where somebody can hear you. I'll fucking sue you. I'll bring it up with the Americans with Disabilities office and I will fucking sue you, I give no fucks. Like it is a button for me. I go into a rage. There's literally no reason to ever do that.

"Helps people go to sleep" bitch I will slap the shit out of you and no jury in the world would convict me, I paid money for this. I oughta be able to hear it.

In the US you really can sue for that. That's a real thing. People are not allowed to talk like that because nobody can fucking hear them and it's considered discriminatory, not just for people like me who are hard of hearing, but for tons of other people, for example, people with social anxiety who might not be able to tell them to speak the fuck up because it triggers their anxiety and therefore they just get robbed. They would have gotten nothing out of that session at all, but might not have been able to even voice a complaint without their chest seizing up. Also, people with sensory disorders like some folks on the autistic spectrum can get so overwhelmed by having sensory input that they're supposed to be listening to but can't that the distress can cause physical reactions.

This is not a small thing and it is not ok. This is one of my buttons. Talk so someone can fucking hear you or I'll see you in court because it's bullshit. That's so selfish and rude and discriminatory. The ONLY way I can see this is if there's something actually wrong with you that prevents you from speaking at a clear and loud level, and that's fine but you need a secondary communication system like ASL or a communication tablet. Like that would be an actual disability and I would absolutely work with you to get the accommodations you need to overcome that because having a disability is not an excuse to be an asshole. If I don't get to have behavioral outbursts because of my neurodivergence you don't get to insult every other person in that disrespectful way.

I didn't mean to go off like this, but this is actually a major thing I constantly fight in my real life, because of where I work- a lot of my clients lack communication skills because of their past trauma and teaching them to overcome it is a big part of their recovery, and for them in particular this kind of shit, seeing other people do that on purpose to be rude, can literally undo years of progress. This shit is not acceptable.

And I mean, on top of it already being rude and unacceptable to me because of my hearing problems and anxiety and my kid's hearing problems like how about we all just stop bringing extra bullshit into the world? Like how about we get together and think, "You know what nobody on the planet has ever thought? 'I just don't have enough bullshit to deal with. Wish I'd have to fucking yell at somebody that I can't hear them. That would vastly improve my day.' Maybe I ought not be an asshole."

In terms of just somebody's voice, like their actual voice though? No. Not just on the basis of their normal voice.

Bitesize, and other children, have the ability to make this certain sound- but it's this one particular sound- that makes my whole muscular system contract including my heart because of my anxiety disorder and I just can't have that shit in my house. And apparently it makes everybody tense up, like that's a natural human reaction, but for me it actually fucks me up medically so I had to sit her down like, "OK so daddy can't have that sound in the house. It's physically hurting me. I know you're upset but I just can't have that sound in my house."

And when she found out that it did actually hurt people she stopped.

It's where it's so high pitched. I already knew I couldn't hear high pitched sounds because my muscles will tense up and I'll get sick, and because of how my brain is fucked up I can actually hear like... I don't know how to describe it, like if I walk through a metal detector I can hear this high pitched humming sound and it also makes me sick so I kind of have to jump through them.

But adults are physically incapable of making that noise so they can't really bother me. But kids can knock me on my ass and I sure... sure wish they wouldn't.

That sound in particular is part of crying, but apparently you can cry without doing it because when I sat her down to talk to her I made it very clear that I wasn't trying to police her emotions, that sound in particular, that one sound, was what was making me sick and could she please just not make that sound.

And she stopped. She hasn't done it since except for one time when she got mad at a video game and apparently didn't know I could hear her. Other kids do it though. So that's... great. I hate that sound so much.

Also, for some reason it's in the game Undertale and they didn't include any kind of warning for it, which they are legally required to do, so that pissed me the fuck off. I was wearing headphones when I played it and I got so sick. Like I threw up because my stomach clenched so hard. And it was done on purpose. They were trying to get "psychological effects", I guess without considering that some people have their fucking brains leaking down their neck and that kind of shit will make a bitch want to KILL you.

When you have something like that in a game, you're supposed to have a like, "This game has psychological triggers in it. It can fuck you up. Please make a conscious decision about whether or not you want to throw your guts up. We won't tell you not to play it, but now that decision is on you."

OMG! That hits a nerve. I have partial hearing loss in my left ear due to chronic ear infections earlier in life.

My daughter used to be very shy so she would whisper things when we were out in public. Not in my ear. Just whisper. I would then snap, "Speak so I can hear you!" She would look mortified but continue to speak in her whisper voice just giving it a nasty inflection.

Now at 21, her hearing isn't as good as it used to be and she will yell at me if I am walking in front of her and say something to her. She'll snap, "Turn so I can hear you!"

I used to have a mother/daughter neighbor combo who were both very shy and or aloof. Not sure which. Odd because the dad and son were not like that at all. Both females walked around with their heads down, looking depressed and not speaking to people.

Almost every morning at the bus stop, the mom would bend down down and whisper nastily into the girl's ear. I could never make out what she was saying but she would glare at me when she said it. Look me right in the eyes. Then she would turn to the girl say nastily and loudly, "It's very important!"

To this day I am left wondering what was so important. |They've moved away. I guess I'll never know.

I don't mind so much ... until they start arguing.

Yeah that's real good for that kid. Teach her to be a complete dick for no reason. God damn that shit kills me.

I'd be like, "What? What? WHAT? You're looking at me but I can't hear you. Do what now?" Like literally until she repeated it loud enough for me to hear or left the bus stop. The amount of fucks I don't give about that amazes some people. Because it's like... a trigger for me. I will run people off with social convention. I will make a scene. I will embarrass the shit out of them.

Eventually she'll have to yell, "I was talking to my kid!"

And I'll be like, "Oh, my bad, you were looking at me. Thought you were talking to me."

And because I don't give a fuck, she'll be the one embarrassed over it.

Thankfully, like I said, most people around me just talk louder, like even louder than necessary, because they're not dicks. Part of that with Bitesize might be because she also can't hear that well, and partially because I'm a caregiver to my grandparents and they're deaf as shit so she was raised just screaming at people for their benefit. So I never had to deal with the, "I can't hear my kid" thing. With my grandparents especially, she can get really loud. She can get them to hear her from the other room- which leads me to believe that they have been able to hear me the whole time and are just ignoring me. Like I swear to god I will say something at the same volume she does, but they can hear her but not me? Seems fake, but ok.

She's whispered at me sometimes, but not like... maliciously. She does it to fuck with me. Like as a joke at my expense, which is cool. Everybody else just... idk talks like a normal human person.

Yeah, I have nerve damage in one of my ears, and Bitesize also has that scarring and shit because she just had the shittiest ears in the world as a baby. Those can be fixed and we are going to fix them eventually, but it's a long-ass process. She's already got the tubes and shit but it... it's just a whole big thing. But eventually she'll be able to hear but it's still rude AF.

Idk why people think that's an acceptable thing to do. It's sure as shit not acceptable to teach to your kid. Especially if they were shit talking you right in front of you, which your post kind of implies. It's also weird that one kid would do it and the others wouldn't. Normally all the kids pick up the bad habits. So like for that kid to do it but not the brother is weird. Especially because little girls tend to be louder than little boys in general, or to be perceived as louder because of the way their voices pitch up. Maybe that's why. Maybe they perceived her as louder and got on to her more.

But if you don't want your house to constantly be loud as fuck like don't have kids. You done fucked up. Don't make the kids pay for your mistake. They're gonna be loud. I hate it when people get onto kids for being loud, that's why I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't physically hurting me. I know them little girls screech for no reason and it's a godawful sound but let her fuckin live she's just having fun.

It when you don't hear playful shrieking you get worried.

Like, "Wait, I'm not being bombarded with constant noise... is my kid dead? Or plotting? Because those are realistically the only two reasons for silence."

You ever have that hit you and you just get overwhelmed by panic. That, "Why the fuck is it quiet?" feeling. That fucks me up.

She could be reading a book or someshit but it fucks me up.

Yeah, I had to train my kids not to make the high pitched noises. I absolutely cannot handle it. Small kids and small dogs. Unbearable.

Hillary Clinton has a horrible voice. I have to cut the volume and use subtitles to watch her lie. It's that croaking, strained sound. It's very common in America women, actually...

My father is a mumbler. I hear perhaps 1/3 of the words, and piece the rest together from context.

The worst I ever met in real life was a coworker whose laugh was like an explosion of donkeys. Everyone in the room would visibly cringe, and I was careful not to crack any jokes with her around.

What's wrong with Clinton? She just... sounds like a person. Like that's a really normal voice. The rest of them I kind of get but I don't understand that one. That's gonna be like... most people that sound like that.

Like I said, lots of Americans have that strained, harsh tone. And my mother, when she's ranting. It's nails on a blackboard to me though.
