Generally speaking, someone with a low IQ would not be capable of finishing a four-year college degree and starting a professional white collar career. It is highly recommended that they enter a vocational job training or apprenticeship program immediately upon finishing high school or earning a GED.
These people are better suited for menial blue collar labor. Community colleges offer vocational job training for these extremely unfortunate individuals. The tests and assessments that were administered to me in high school qualified me for an IEP (individualized education program) and concluded that I have below-average intelligence and a four year college was not recommended.
The graduates of 4-6 year college degree programs have IQ's significantly above normal. The average IQ of a university graduate student is 125 and up. Special ed placements in elementary school/grade school/high school have intelligence levels which are substantially below average or bordering on mental retardation. These people will likely not be capable of amounting to anything significant.
Many of these people go on to live extremely difficult and troubled lives and are at a far greater risk for suicide, disease, poverty, unemployment, mental illness, criminality, and poor health.
Most parents of children want their kids to go on to college, get good jobs, have successful careers, earn a high salary, and lead full and prosperous lives. Unfortunately this is not possible for everyone..
Scientists believe that low intelligence is just bad luck which is caused by genetic mutations while still inside the womb.
