visual plot bunny

After the diaspora to other worlds, Earth of the 350th century has become a giant hedonist park. With weather control and temperature control, nudism has taken root and clothes are now forbidden on earth. With the elimination of all sexually transmitted diseases, the watch word is now "Pleasure for pleasures sake."

If they turn around they'd be mooning the moon.

(sorry, I know its not related. Will come back after I'm not high)

Let's try some analysis here.

The image will have THE END superimposed -- it's the story's final shot.
The author's job is to devise a way for the story to reach that point.

Given:
* That's likely not Luna but some other cratered airless body.
* The couple seem to be in a glass-hulled spaceship or station.
* That's a weird assortment of machinery scattered around them.
* The vessel is not in atmosphere. Is it nearing, leaving, or orbiting the body?
* As this is the finale, the couple has likely survived challenges and action.

Such are my observations. How, now, to build a story? My usual practice is: Establish the setting (time and place). Throw in the players, give them a few plot points to hit, and set them loose. Transcribe the action, edit it, and voila!

This story comes to mind: The time is 4004 BCE. Setting is an alien starship orbiting a dead planet that is about to be terraformed by the ship's inhuman intelligence, known as {JHWH}. The couple are Man (Adam) and Woman (Eve) who will be given that world, to be known as Terra, to colonize. They stand together, musing on their future.

Hmmm, no drama there. Okay, try this: Time is 2525 CE. Setting is aboard a spaceship fleeing from a bombed-out world. The couple are the only survivors of an exploratory team that encountered all sorts of shit planetside, leading to their destruction of the biosphere and its evil alien presences, maybe a race of sexually-aggressive hominid parasites. Their teammates were fucked to death.

Or maybe that *is* Luna in the not-too-distant future. The couple (siblings?) are aboard an Earth-orbiting station, a big donut spinning for artificial gravity. The couple has just left the last regularly-scheduled orgy before catching a shuttle down to the low-gravity Lunar uninhibited fun zone, a buried arcology. Clothing is unnecessary in these artificial environments.

See, that's not difficult! Establish the setting, players, and ending, and the story almost writes itself.

She: Darling, can I wear that new transparent space suit out there?

PS. I think it dates from the 1950s,; well, bits of it do.
Her shape seems more modern.

In the future everyone has a hologram room. In this room you can be in any kind of environment you want. The room is controlled by a computer which re recreates the weather in accordance with the environment you choose. So if it's a Pacific Island the room will have a warm breeze and the room will be a fully immersive world. In the picture the couple are in their hologram room having just finished a fantasy where they were making love in space.

It's a weird idea, but the best I could come with in response to the illustration.

They could be professional entertainers. That round, fat thing with the lens to her lower right looks like a camera of sorts. I think they're erotic performers about to titillate the denizens of Earth with their sexual expertise.

She: Just so you know, it's your turn to dust the equipment and you're not getting out of it.

He: Shit.

She: Isn't it romantic?

He: Yeah. It reminds me of pizza. Is the laundry done yet?

She: I'm going to stuff you in the air lock and blow the latch.

He: Now that you have seen every planet in the galaxy, where do you want to live?

She: Sixth Avenue, New York.

It rather looks like it might be an illustration to a Heinlein book, or at least inspired by one.

ETA: It seems to be a Wally Wood comic book illustration but that's as far as I can get right now.

I saved the image, but I'm not sure I have anything to do with it. It did occur to me that writing stories to a visual clue like this could make for an interesting contest.

We had one back a while ago with Slick. I ended up picking the image. Which reminds me, I need to finish my story.

Inspired by Wood, sure, but lacking many of his signature touches. I can't really do an image search on the tablet I'm now using. A little help, people?

The way you talk on all threads with your ideas is a late night sketch of nothing that has not been heard before and the players just want to get through it.

Random insults--that's an annoying feature of this forum.

Aha! It is a Wally Wood and it's entitled 'Moon'. What it was designed for, though, I'm still researching. It may be just a stand alone.

I might be perfectly willing to write a story for it. Maybe even something that doesn't involve her stuffing him into an airlock. Or maybe she does...
