virus prevention help

I am in need of some help. My brother got a worm on his pc...and it just suddenly dawned on my...(hello!) that maybe I had better try and run some sort of scanner thingy to see if my Laptop is as clean as i would like to think so.

The problem is this: I don't know how to do this....some guy installed a version of McAfee about 2 or so years back when i was at my old college...needless to say its been 2 or so years since i thought about it...I have been getting alot of BSD...(blue screens of death) lately is this normal?

I dunno maybe I am freaking out over nothing, but I just want to be safe....

If McAfee is still installed on your system then there should be an icon that looks like a shield with a V on it. You can try double clicking that and see what pops up, or you may try looking on your start menu to see if it's listed in there anywhere.

If it's not still installed and you need a new virus scanner I personally recommend AVG from www.grisoft.com . It's totally free, and I have never had a problem with it and it caught everything that has ever tried to get on my system. The program is free and so are the updates.
