I don't know if this is the right place to put this but I'm going to vent. Why is it that as a college student trying to better my life I can't find a fucking job willing to work around my class schedule and giving me time to do homework. I've been to restaurants, stores, conveniant stores and noone is willing to hire me. I know there are people that do both. So, why am I having such a problem? I don't feel I should compromise school for a job. With the exception of family, I don't feel I should compromise school for anything. I'm just so damn frustrated. Thank yu for allowing me this time to vent.

I feel the same, BUT there will come a time in your education where you say "FUCK THIS SHIT" and pray to god that you get a job so you do not have to go to Colledge/University.

Right now i am at the stage where i don't want to go to class because i am learning more in my job then what i ever will from Lectureres that have never worked a real day in their lives. I mean working in the inductry that they supposedly teach in.

Cheers,

D

I sit on the other side of the table -- I own companies. You are looking in the wrong place. Why are you messing around with restaurants and convenience stores? Do you want to be a professional waiter when you grow up?

What is your major? What do you want to do in life? Go to those companies -- become an intern. Work in your field. There are lots of companies who take on interns - particularly high tech companies - and we understand the need for a flexible schedule. Offer them a deal -- cheap help that wants to learn. Whatever it takes to get them to hire you.

Sure, you are going to get the mundane jobs at first. But, think how nice 3-4 years of intern experience will look on your resume when you graduate.

Don't do what everybody else does -- be creative ! After all, that's what we are looking for.

You're right! That's how i get by every week, i work in the field i am studying in.

I'm an education major, so I need to go to college. As far as looking in the field to find a job there really isn't anyplace to look. Daycares won't hire me cuz I'm a male since apparently all guys who work with daycare kids just want to molest them. So I need to find a crap job unless someone knows of a position I can look at where I can work in education b4 I get my teaching degree.

I assume you are interested in teaching - though, the reference to daycare throws me a little bit. I don't know where you live, so I will just throw out some possibilities.

Work at the library?

Teaching Assistant at the local school?

Textbook development?

Support for online education? (Call your local web hosting company - they will know who does this stuff). They need people who develop lesson plans, etc.

School supply and textbook companies need representatives to visit local schools to promote their products?

Local Park and Recs program?

Tutoring?

You certainly are more knowledgeable about what is available in this field than me (I am in financial planning). Take some time - get somewhere quiet - brainstorm it. You will be surprised how many potential jobs you can come up with.

If you truly can't come up with anything in your field, start looking in the sales areas. Typically, you pick your own hours, and all you have to do is produce the sales. Sell vacuum cleaners, or cars, or insurance.

The point is -- open up your horizons. Don't restrict yourself just because everybody else does it that way. Think big. Be creative. You can whine about your condition, or you can fix it. It's up to you.

Hope this helps - Good luck.

I didn't mean to sound whiny. I mentioned daycare cuz it's working with children and teaching them things. As far as teacher's aid I have class during the day although that's not a bad idea. That's something I can go check into. Should I go to the school or school district office about that I'd also like to be a summer camp counselor unfortunately summer's over. Some of the other idea's were good.

there's a website called "craigslist.com" that posts jobs for most cities. many of the employment opportunities listed are very unique. for example, there were specific companies looking for tutorors for elementary through high school students, various subjects.

here is the link...http://denver.craigslist.org/

you can change the city you search for, of course.
