Watching a show right now on the Travel Channel (think it's called "2 for Vegas") which shows couples getting ready to be hitched in one of the chapels in Las Vegas. Looks like it might be a fun thing to do.

Has anyone here experienced a Vegas wedding?

Was Elvis there?:D

I've known 3 couples who got married in Vegas, and one couple who were friends with a roommate.

None of the 4 were the "cheesy", cheap, Elvis-as-preacher affairs. All three were actually quite classy. 2 of the brides had informal wedding "gowns". More like real classy, white or ivory dresses. The other 2 had full-blown wedding gowns. Some brought their own flowers, packed in coolers. (one of the brides was of Hawaiian descent, so the wedding party wore leis and the bridesmaid and maid of honor wore a ringlet of flowers on their heads. In all cases, the wedding party traveled to Vegas - some had a bridesmaid, groomsman, maid of honor, and best man, others just had a maid of honor and a best man. All except one, issued invitations to a very small, select group of guests. (partially due to cost, partially due to the fact that none of the couples wanted a big wedding, partially due to the fact that wedding chapels in Vegas are very small) I believe on had a video made, the others had pictures taken. One couple had hired a professional photographer for the event.

A wedding cake was provided for all 4 weddings. One of the brides decided to go to the casino dressed in her wedding gown, the others opted to change before hitting the town.

There are the cheesy places to get married in Vegas - complete with Elivis. :D They even have "drive-thru" convenience! But most couples do spend time planning the event, including getting together with wedding coordinators at the hotels (all the big hotels have wedding chapels) to make arrangements. It can be as casual as you like, or it can truly resemble a smaller version of a larger wedding. I've seen both.

I've never experienced the "drive-thru" or the Elivs thing, though.

Not quiet

But we got married in the administration building in NYC, 1 Centre Street, 2nd floor. Everybody but Elvis was there!

The cutest were these Puerto Rican girls in their full bridal regalia, veils, white chiffon--the works. And then it was all over in like three minutes flat (well it was late on a Friday afternoon).

my former english teacher got married in beijing to her chinese husband in a 5min ceremony.... he had to step on her toe to give her a sign to tell her to say the mandarin word for "Yes" then. Then they both went back to school to teach.

the wedding of my parents took 3 days.

I have always thought that having a Elvis Vegas wedding would be a great thing for an anniversary.

It would be really fun.

My first marriage took place in front of a notary public and took only seconds to sign the papers. I am hoping that my next wedding is a bit longer than that.

Thanks for all the responses!

I knew a couple who eloped in a small chapel outside of Reno, but I couldn't get over all the chapels I spotted on my last trip to Vegas! Even all the major hotels have them!

This show is pretty neat, though. Evidentally they focus on two couples per half hour.

One had a beautiful ceremony in the Mirage, then "Elvis" showed up to sing at the reception!:D

If anybody is interested...

I got married In Las Vegas -- at the courthouse. (one floor below the courtroom where my divorce was granted 9 years later.)

Thanks WH! Sorry that you had a marriage that began and started in the same place!:(

Back to the Travel Channel: they showed a wedding presided over by "Austin Powers", with "Donna Summers" as the entertainment!:D

I think Vegas is a great place to ruin one's life!

:)

never took the dive, though

I like the way you worded that!:D

Las Vegas reminds me of the ultimate adult playground, and I'm so amused at the very many and varied ways a couple can begin a life together!

My brother got married at the Chapel of the Bells. It was a beautiful and tasteful ceremony. They chose to get married there because her family was in TX and we were in MO and they were in CA so it seemed logical to do it there. It was small and quick but tasteful none the less and they are still married 5 years later. Besides, it was a great excuse to go to Las Vegas. I probably still wouldn't have ever been there had it not been for him getting married. We might even go back some day.

YES!!

I got married in Vegas in a limo! Little chapel drive up :D:D

we both wore black it was sooooo rockstarish :)

Thanks for sharing that, Ree.

It's good to hear about the "tasteful" ones! I think it's a great place for a small wedding; gives everyone a treat! I think these chapels beat the idea of a city hall office!

That sounds pretty neat! Did you get to stay inside the car (I mean, is it really a drive through?)

I was married in a drive through ceremony at the little white chapel. It was hotter than hades that day and i did not want to put panty hose on so we elected to do the burger king version of marriage. I have often thought that the marriage was only legal when my ex husband and I were in a car. Funny how the mind works. lol. I just couldn't get into the dog and pony show so many weddings seem to be. Dressing in white was so inappropriate at that point in my life. I would say that my experience in vegas was all I expected.

When we finished the vows we returned to the hotel. It was around 930am. On our way to our room we ran into two guys from new york who obviously had just hired a prostitute. She was such a perfect ivory girl. I thought somehow seeing them was the icing on my wedding cake. lol.

The marriage failed but I do have great memories.

Yeah!! We stayed in the car! The reverend (which was a female) came to our car and performed the ceremony! It was SOOO awesome! There was a car in front of us, so we waited our turn and watched them drive off a married couple! :D

I thought of the convenience of not needing to put on fancy shoes and such! I'm so dang lazy!

I'm glad you at least have great memories from it all!:rose:

BTW: I am NOT thinking about getting married!!
I just enjoy Vegas so much, and got a kick seeing the goings-on there! My last trip there was anything BUT romantic!

Your post had me curious, so I checked the website for A Little White Chapel, and noticed an explanation for having a drive through wedding in the "Tunnel of Vows"!:)

"In 1991, Charolette noticed a handicapped couple having difficulty getting out of their car and into the chapel. Having a heart for the handicapped, the idea of a drive-up window became very clear to her.

She instructed her son, a contractor, to knock out a wall. After the window opened on Valentine's Day, it became such a novelty that all kinds of couples began lining up for a "drive thru" wedding of vows.

Our Drive Thru Tunnel Of Vows has recently been expanded to include a romantic ceiling with cherubs and starlights. Perfect for a unique, yet romantic ceremony."

Sounds neat!!:D
