Can anyone tell me why votes vanish from my 'submissions_view' page here?
This isn't the 1st time I noticed it. Two of my stories went from 11 to 9 votes so they lost the HOT tag. I see others have also declined.

How is it possible to vote -2 times? ??

Yes, someone can vote two times, or more, then the excess votes get swept away in what they term a "sweep" here. We all see it happen to our stories. :rose:

There are occasional sweeps, when duplicate votes on a single story, as well as suspected troll 'bombs' (1s and 2s, I think) get removed across the board. So, while you see your number of votes go down, your average score might go up.

If it's any comfort, you are not alone.

Ohhh, I C. Must be random timing... or top secret. Can someone vote for 1 story only 1 time EVER? If they read it a second time in a week or month, is that swept away too? :catroar:

I reread my own stories online about every other month. If I vote for me once each time is that also removed? :)

Just curious. I've never seen this in the FAQs. Thanks for the replies.

I'm not an expert on this, but I suspect that, yes, regardless of time elapsed, all but the first vote from any user (based on IP address or cookies or something...) is considered invalid by the site's software. So if you vote for your story or anyone else's multiple times, the second, third, and thousandth duplicate vote is likely to get removed, sooner or later.

OK, now is there another myth going here? I did hear that you could vote for you own stories once--but whenever I've tried it, it hasn't registered. So, what's the "real" truth of this?

You can vote for your own stories, or at least, you used to be able to.

Hmmm. I'm going to be a little busy today, then.

You can vote for your own stuff. I did it to one of my poems the other day so the poor thing had a vote!

I know that you used to be able to. I always four-bombed anything of mine that picked up 9 5s for the longest time to reduce the troll radar signature when it hit the toplists.

Haven't done it in a while, though. My readership is up enough that I have a few that won't automatically 5 bomb something just because I wrote it.
