The competition dates for 2008 have now been announced in the Welcome Authors! Please Read thread.

As before, this thread is to encourage authors to write and enter, to support them when the muses fly away, to sympathise when trolls attack, and to shamelessly beg for votes.

For anyone who hasn't entered a themed Literotica contest before:

The advantages are that once you enter, that story and all your writing gets far more attention, votes, feedback and PCs than it would otherwise get. You also get support from members of the Author's Hangout.

The disadvantages are that your story also attracts unwelcome attention from trolls and unenlightened critics. It can be a bumpy ride.

If you really want your writing to improve, critics will be a factor. Entering a themed Literotica contest is one of the easier ways to get noticed.

If in doubt, go for it. You have nothing to lose but your virginity, and if you haven't lost it yet, what are you doing here?

Meanwhile, now that my moving is calming down
(still a surplus dining room set to sell, a bed and tv to buy), I hope to write more. I THOUGHT the V Day contest might motivate me to a deadline, but V Day themes have always been tough pour moi ( read Hard To Write, my tribute to idea block, though in reality its just because though I'm a romantic at heart, my repeated rejections have left me sad about the whole deal).

Can anybody give me inspiration/a kick in the butt/an opening line/ a challenge?

A challenge: build a Valentine's Day story on "it was a dark & stormy night"

An opening line: She looked at him in disbelief. "I was born at night, but it wasn't last night!"

A kick in the butt: *lines up my size 6.5 ....*

Inspiration: watch any couple you know who've been together more than 30 or 40 years, then when the moment's right, ask them what's helped them endure
