How is this device different from a dildo or vibrator?

Dildos/vibrators are often thicker than that. Vaginal dialators are for woman that can't handle an average sized penis. The largest dialator I've seen is 6 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter.

I've used dialators in the past. The set I had started off really small, about the size of 2 fingers, and quite short, and increased gradually to about the size of 3 - 4 fingers and 7 - 8 inches long. The main problem I found was the fact they were made of plastic and so had no give in them, they were very rigid.

That's not really true. Vibrators would stretch the vulva and the vaginal os. If it fits comfortably, though, you're already stretched enough for its size. Of course, even if you could fuck something as huge as the Dick Rambone dildo, you'd probably snap back into shape within an hour, as long as you didn't injure yourself.

Yeah, I do. Diameter is the distance you get if you draw a straight line through the middle of a circle. Circumference is the distance all the way around the circle. Seriously, 1.5 inches diameter is about a quarter inch smaller than the diameter of my penis and it's not like I'm monster sized or anything.

You might also want to look into those inflatable/balloon ones. I would think you could inflate it until it felt like it was stretching a bit, and if you used it daily the size you could comfortably take would increase.

Depends upon what my doctor recommends/prescribes. At least the Dr. Berman dilators vibrate.
