Typical young lady, misplacing her belongings :D
Unlike certain Old (female) Farts that get anal about purses, keys and such stuff ;)

This may not be appropriate, but oh well. My Dad would have been ninety today. One of my sisters asked for a story about him to pass on to the family. You all are family...............

I think the three years we spent in Hagerstown were the best time of my life. Other than gaining a best friend I just lost this past year, the times spent with Dad stand out. There are four or five episodes that come to mind but this one was poignant.

I didn't get my license at sixteen like most guys I knew. I had to wait as there wasn't a second car and there were already two drivers for it. After getting my learners permit Dad decided a Saturday morning trip to Baltimore would be a great learning experience. Up off our street on to US Rte 40 we went. No parking lot, no country back roads; the main artery going from coast to coast for this boy! Right away the Dodge Dart was up to the speed limit of fifty-five. We headed toward South Mountain. Traffic was heavy and I was prepared to keep the right distance from the vehicles in front. On the four lane he said, "Pass these couple cars." Ok, now I was doing sixty. "Back down to speed limit." "Yes Sir" Now we are on the two lane portion moving up toward the pass at Gambrell State Park. "There's an eighteen wheeler you're going to have to pass." "I'm already doing the speed limit Dad." The eighteen wheeler was at least a quarter mile ahead. "He is going to slow down as we go up the mountain, you need to speed up." "But...." "Listen to me, you are going to pass that truck or park the damned car." Well, I knew he didn't give too many chances to follow his orders, so I was doing sixty-five. I was making up ground. "Scott, you have to pass that truck.!" Seventy. Remember folks, this was my first time behind the wheel. I pulled out in the other lane to move by cautiously. ""Hurry up we don't have forever." I hit passing gear, and flew by at seventy five. I have no memory of the rest of the trip or where the two us were going that day except to Baltimore on my first time behind the wheel.

Two thoughts. If you ever wondered where I got my lead foot, look no farther; father! And, when Dad said to do it; there was only one reply, "Yes Sir!"

Good lord!

I cannot imagine your Dad and mine in the same car.... no matter who did the driving, the other one would be pulling their own hair by the roots :D

Can you imagine this same man in a 1951 Ford Station Wagon, with seven kids and my mother, traveling from Maryland to Georgia!!! Six hundred miles

My poor mother...........
