Since I didn't keep a journal I may have been wrong about whether we did our walk toward the Collosium the first or second day......but on the way we passed the Roman Forum...these are the excavated ruins of ancient Rome.....it would have taken a tour guide to explain what was what...as it were it was astounding that so much survived 2000 years.......

In front of the ruins is one of very few remembrances of Julius Caesar..........this was commemorated by the Jewish population of Rome, because of their favorable treatment by the emperor....

On we trekked to the Collosium.......as I said, we decided not to do the interior........my leg was shot by now......just some pics of ..........

the underground was right across the street so off we went.

The next morning we decided to head back north....I've included some pics here that I didn't have a title for....


Ifwe had it to over again, we would have found a closer hotel so we could have had rest time and stayed longer.....

as in Athens and Vienna, I got what I wanted.....a flavor of Rome without seeing everything or stopping at every museum........and what company, Phoenix again used her knowledge to get us around and by know knew exactly what I was looking for......

Now I'm a bit confused. According to here, the Postojna Cave System covers a total of 21 kilometres ... but I believe the way that's written, it's really 4 seperate caves.

Just to put it straight, it's not 4 separate caves. 4 different names are mentioned cause all the cave system wasn't found at the same time and as the speleologists progressed they added names for the new found parts of the cave.

The whole region has a number of smaller and bigger caves, which has something to do with the limestone ground.....new ones are discovered all the time actually.

after leaving the fountain we walked for many blocks til we came the Church of the Trianta'del Monti at the top of the steps...................no, we did not walk up the steps....it would have been painful coming back down


Ms. P talked to one of the horse drawn carriage drivers and had bad things to say about their exhorbinent prices....


after taking these pictures we walked to a side street and found an exceptional restaurant for lunch........the price was high but the food and service was outstanding....


the statue was at the base of the steps and it looked like he was making a drawing of the fountain, steps, and church.........

I like the colorful flowers in this group of pics....though I couldn't imagine being tired and climbing all those stairs!!!

the colors were quite striking, but both of us looked at those steps and vetoed the thought.........

And went to one of the numerous restaurants to enjoy lunch, ha....

The Spanish steps were crowded like all the other places we visited.....Rom eis simply a popular travel destination and you can hear all possible languages on the streets.

Noticed I don't have a lot of pics to add anymore.....here's some of the fountains in the city......there's more than 1000 of them, if i remember correctly.

our guide told us there were fountains strategically placed thru Rome that you could drink from.....right off the Vatican Gate he went over to one and filled his bottle from the flowing water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

almost finished.........

again, out and about in Slovenia.....the Italians are big in memorials to their fallen comrades....In this case they built this monument around a church built in1696. Entombed in the monument are the remains of over 7000 soldiers lost in the WWI campaigns nearby.....
