I think with this technique you could even have two copies of the same file open. So each window could be scrolled to a different section of the document….

It (editing the SAME document twice at the same time) probably would, I bet. But it’s a little like resting a running chainsaw on a wobbly stool. Bad things can happen! The safe thing to do is use the chainsaw to make all the legs on the stool the same length. THEN rest the chainsaw on it.

Shift-clicking for two word pads at the same time is perfectly safe. Just not the same document twice, it’s too easy to accidentally overlay one work in progress at of changes with the other.

Veering off topic one last time for the benefit of OP:

If your computer has word pad on it still, either (a) you did this already, good for you, or (b) you’re still on an older version of Windows 11, perhaps you’ve got windows updates turned off, which is risky in today’s internet.

If you fall into (b), but remain committed to wordpad (nothing wrong with that) copy the files described in this article now. You don’t have to do anything else other than tuck them away for a rainy day. Because wordpad might vanish on you someday if/when your version of Windows 11 updates.
