On one hand, this thread seems like it's never going to die, because Yano's found a never-ending stream of bystanders to keep having the same argument with.

On the other hand, if it keeps some the AI arguing contained, maybe it's better this way. Like the AH's very own Loving Wives.

Maybe Yano is an AI bot cleverly designed by some AH'er to contain the discussion of AI bots. Ingenious.

This really isn't the best place to ask that question. Most of us here are writers. We write for the fun of writing. Besides the ethical and environmental considerations of using AI, why would we use a tool that diminishes our enjoyment and creates an inferior product? And that won't be accepted for publication here on Lit?

I use it for work to help me write long, complex emails, instructions or complex communication and to analyze data. We have an in-house proprietary LLM we use but sometimes to analyze data, ChatGPT works better.

I have never used it to write stories. I like the creative process. (I usually use voice to text when driving to and from work and then revise and check it manually.

I am embrassed to admit that I am having a devil of a time with writing poetry and have had really bad writers block. I wrote a decent poem, but it wasn’t quite clicking. I ran it thru chat (improve this) and it made a few really solid suggestions! I am embarrassed to say I took a few suggestions…..

Not sure, there's some methods to attempt but cloud/commercial LLM's i avoid for privacy reasons.

I prefer to use local LLM's that are uncensored or trained/merged with uncensor kits (and some that say they are censored shut up when you put them in SillyTavern). Dipping my toes into it you would be surprised how much RAM it uses and how big the downloads are, and how slow it is unless the hardware is halfway up to snuff, at least for models that have decent output (I'm still annoyed at huge game downloads but a little less after dealing with Stable Diffusion and LLM's).

And if everyone had to run LLM's locally it would be far less adopted/used and we'd have time to adjust to using the technology pros/cons and pitfalls while it advances would probably be far better.

Not convinced it's an inferior product as models i like are on par with RPers from F-list. But writing is like cooking, and the output is only as good as the quality of the ingredients, the processed used to cook and the chef doing it.

Analysis. I only had a 235B model that analyzed this one story correctly, most smaller models get most of the analysis right but leaves major points out.

GPT 3.5 is suppose to be 400B and 4.0 is going towards a 1T model. So it's not a surprise GPT may work better. But there's no way you are running it locally... (well.... i suppose you COULD..... either very very slowly or spending an ungodly amount on hardware)

Sure you can ban them. Then new terms will be adopted, like 'not fully human', or using longform of "talk Gee Pee Tea" or some other oddities, much like you see on Youtube/Twitter where they used 'unalive' or 'minecrated' instead of kill or suicide. Add those terms and new terms will be used and adopted. You're just fighting with infinite obfuscation.

Besides, if it's limited to a couple specific threads, i don't see the problem.

Eventually you might do it to combinations of words, but then have undocumented combinations that ban or refuse to post perfectly normal messages with no way around it.

Yes, they take care of writing a good prompt for a 'story writing optimized LLM' that can make a very good rough draft. But not cheap? $10/month is quite cheap in my mind. YMMV

I don't know of one that costs $10 a month that's worth that price. But I also don't think either Novel Write or SudoWrite is worth whatever level you buy. They are credit-based, and each credit gives you less than one word. From what I understand, you spend 10,000 credits for one to two thousand words, depending on the AI model used. I write to make money. Now, if I spend money to write words, I'm not going to make much money. It's bad math to spend money on something that requires tons of editing to be useful.

I don't like subscription services. Some you're not renting content you're renting hardware. Saw some prices for using LLM models and it is a million tokens per 10 cents. yeah that's relatively cheap, and if you don't have any hardware to run it on, then sure it's not a bad deal, though you'll probably spend more of it processing tokens (added or whole-cloth?) than generating tokens. Might make sense if you are traveling and only using say a laptop.

But i kinda am in the mindset of buying something to own. So something like WoW doesn't make sense, you spend $60 for a game, and then in the subscription costs you re-buy the game every 3-4 months in costs of your subscription ($15/month). It doesn't make sense to me. Yes that's not THAT expensive but it adds up. Individual streaming services also aren't that expensive, or they weren't when Netflix started. But now it's untenable.

Also a lot of subscription services count on after a while you just forget to cancel, and they get to pull money for months or years with you not using it. I did that with a Gym membership, used it for like 3 months, and then for 9 months in a row never went, not that it wasn't close enough to even walk to, but i just didn't have the energy time or reason to go.

I'm against the 'you will own nothing' that's being pushed through endless subscription services.
