Nah we fucking steam rolled that fucker harder than anyone we have ever fucked up. It was so un-fucking-fair it took them weeks to figure out we could see in the dark. Yea...they might as well have had sling shots and water guns. I mean look at the kill ratios....they are unbelievable. Like 97:1....that's a total fucking slaughter.
We would just roll up, take a city with a couple hundred thousand, kill a few thousand mother fuckers and own that bitch with zero casualties by the end of the week. It was like the Olympic hockey team vs a Jr. League with a bunch of 10y/o kids who can't even skate.
Only significant thing about Iraq we lost was money/time...once again because of politics. Should have had Exxon oil rigs going up in 2004....

War is an ugly business, and as far as I'm concerned there had better be a damn good reason to be there. If you are going to do it, make sure it is an all out effort and get it done.
Now, having said all that, I have no experience with an actual shooting war. My service was during the cold war from '79 through '89. I got out of the military before the first gulf war.

I'm really sort of ambigious about it these days.
To be fair I would have to synops the last 25 years or so.
Gulf War 1 - Seemed to at least have a clear cut goal. Drive Sadam out of Kuwait. Only problem I saw, at the time, was the failure to finish the job. However, given the way the 2nd Gulf War turned out, maybe the strategists actually got it right by not disposing Sadam and leaving the core government intact. At least the regime, bad as it might have been, kept the country fairly stable.
Afganistan - Wow, where to start here. I get it that it was post 9/11 and this was supossedly where Bin-Lauden was hiding out. But I'm not sure what the Taliban had to do with it or why it was important to go after them specifically. Either way, given the history of the region and the recent disaster with the Soviets, I wasn't so sure that being there was a good idea. Now maybe I missed it somewhere but I also fail to see the strategic significance of the area.
Iraq - What a disaster! Leaving aside the political crap over whether the stated reason was valid. There was so much here that wasn't taken into account that I think the military, in an effort to fight a "nice" war, ended up with something they never really planned on. A rat war. I guess all those war college eggheads didn't study to hard about what happens when you fight a rat war in a city. Nor did they take into account the "will of the people to resist".
As far as now. I think that we are trying to chase ghosts. IF it wasn't for the importance of the area for resourses (not just us but most of the western world) I'd say let 'em fight it out and solve thier own political problems.
But I know this is too simplistic of a view for the hard core hacks on here, so bash away.
