UPDATE

Real Date and Time: 26 Aug 2013, 8:40pm Pacific Time Zone (GMT 0240, 27 Aug)
Game Date and Time: Sunday, 10 Sep 2017, Midday

New or Changed Information:
  • "The Zombie Riots": The world is being overrun by Zombies.
  • "Cast of Characters": 28 survivors are inside the Knight Library, including 8 children.
  • "Utilities and Services": All utilities and services are working normally.
  • "Consumable Resources":
    • A full inventory of food and other consumables has not been completed yet.
    • Max hid away most of the vending machine food, just in case.
    • NEW: As of Monday morning, 11 Sep 2017, there will only be 50 "meals" available. That's <2 days worth of food, after which people begin to get hungry.
  • Constant monitoring of the internet, television, and radio has revealed:
    • Zombie Riots are occurring in major cities all over the world. So far, more than 30 cities in 20 countries are being overrun.
    • No cause is certain, although unnamed sources from the Government think it is a terrorist act using genetically modified viruses or bacteria.
    • In Eugene, the various branches of the Police, the National Guard, and local citizens have been successfully using fire arms and other weapons to kill the Zombies. It would appear that they are just as physically vulnerable to weapons as a normal human, with no "gotta get'em in the brain" scenarios as is popular in so many Zombie movies and television shows.
    • A lot of reports about Zombie behavior have been watched and the information has been a constant topic amongst the Library Survivors. (See "Zombies".)
  • RIGHT NOW:
    • NEW: It is around midday, Sunday morning, 8 Sep 2013.

WHAT IS THIS?

THIS IS THE "UPDATE THREAD", IN WHICH YOU WILL FIND:
  • Statistics and other information helpful to the Writers.
  • Hints and suggestions aimed at helping the Characters survive and thrive.
HOW DO THE WRITERS USE THIS THREAD?
  • Read the latest Update when it arrives, taking note of:
    • Good changes in green.
    • Bad changes in red.
  • Occasionally review the full list of statistics in this thread's first post.
  • Use the information to determine what tasks your Characters can pursue to better survive and thrive.
DO WE HAVE TO USE "UPDATE" STATISTICS & INFORMATION IN OUR POSTS?
  • No. The Updates are provided for such purposes as:
    • Tracking availability and consumption of resources, availability of important services, and more.
    • Keeping the Writers on the same page about these and other issues.
    • And giving Writers -- and, therefore, their Characters -- hints and "direction" that will help them chose specific tasks and missions aimed at fulfilling the needs of the Library Community.
  • You do not have to specifically use any of this information .. HOWEVER ... do not contradict this information, either.
  • If the Update says we are out of food and the electricity is out, don't write about the delicious King's banquet that your Character just took out of the fully functioning microwave, obviously.
WHO DECIDES WHAT GOES INTO THE "UPDATE"?
  • We all do, in a sense.
  • The Host is the only person who should be posting in this thread.
  • However, the Writers are encouraged to PM the Host:
    • Got a new resource or societal issue you think should be measured?
    • Think one of the statistics is being measured incorrectly or unrealistically?
    • Need clarification on how a statistic affects you and your Character(s)?
WILL THE UPDATE ITSELF CHANGE OVER TIME?
  • All the time!
  • I will likely never be done tweaking the Update -- the statistics measured and their affects on the Characters both.
  • And, over time, I will learn faster, easier ways to manage the Update.
  • Some measured statistics will appear and others will disappear.
  • Be patient with me as I learn how best to do this.

Cast of Characters

How This Thread is Organized

Last Update: 25 August 2013
There are currently 28 Survivors in the Knight Library, incl. 8 children.

"Unsupervised" NPCs inside the Knight Library: These NPCs are available for Writers to "adopt" as their own. Keep in mind that you are responsible for them, meaning that if we run out of food or other vital resources, they will come to you for support. (I will explain this more later, when we get a little more in depth into the "survive and thrive" portion of the role play.)
  • NPC, male, Elementary School Teacher.
    • 4 students, ages 9-10.
  • NPC, female, Elementary School Teacher.
    • 4 students, ages 9-10.
Note: Some of the NPCs above have not been mentioned in "Story Thread" posts yet, but they will be soon, so I am adding them now to give all of you the sense of how this page will eventually look.

Update

Real Date and Time: 26 Aug 2013, 7:30am Pacific Time Zone (GMT 1430)
Game Date and Time: 8 Sep 2013, Sunrise

(NOTE: Be aware that since this is the first Update, everything in it is "New or Changed".

New or Changed Information:
  • The world is being overrun by Zombies. (See "The Zombie Riots".)
  • 28 survivors are inside the Knight Library on the University of Oregon campus, Eugene, Oregon. (See "Cast of Characters".)
  • All utilities and services are working normally. (See "Utilities and Services".)
  • Consumable resources have not yet been fully inventoried, but it is already known that there isn't enough food to satisfy the Survivors for long. (See "Consumable Resources".)
    • It is a bit after Sunrise, Sunday morning, 8 Sep 2013.
    • Some initial interactions between some Library "residents" (as I will now begin to call them) will likely occur. (Feel free to write about these interactions in your first post of the day.)
    • Peter -- with Max at his side -- is going to assemble everyone in the open study area of the second floor for a discussion. I am going to write that this morning. It will be more OOC than IC.
    • After that post, you are free to begin posting for this second day of the story.

UPDATE

Real Date and Time: 26 Aug 2013, 8:40pm Pacific Time Zone (GMT 0240, 27 Aug)
Game Date and Time: 8 Sep 2017, Midday

CHANGES:
  • I updated the game time to Midday.
  • I changed the year of our Role Play from 2013 to 2017.
  • As of Monday, 9 Sep 2017, there will only be 50 "meals" available:
    • Max hid most of what was in the vending machines and kitchen to prevent them from being looted, at which point there were 60 meals.
    • Then he was assaulted and a box in which 10 meals were stored was taken. Max claims he doesn't know who took the box, but he does.
