Yesterday we were driving home from a party and I started to notice a few cars that have union bumper stickers…but the vehicles were mostly Toyota, Nissan, and Kia.

Then, at Home Depot there was a truck that had a bumper sticker calling for American’s to support their local farmer (plates from Idaho)…if he was so worried about the “local” business person why was this person shopping at Home Depot? Ace and True Value are franchisees…

All the Union and Buy American, Buy Local whooping boils down to HOORAY FOR ME, FUCK YOU.

When I was active in my union, the UAW was always the first to cross our picket lines. The UAW couldnt care less about solidarity, so fuck them.

no, i just found it funny. here is what I do not like about unions, I'm about to start a new business and thank god I'm in a right to work state, so the union can't come in and tell me what I must pay poeple. now, when i find someone good, I will clamp them with golden handcufs...and when i find someone bad, well i can end our relationship...no hoops to jump through....no bs....

as a worker, i could never work for a union shop. i hate the idea of scale wages and everyone makes the same...some are worth more money than others to the company.

on the flip side, I can see how working for a union can be of great comfort and security. guess were more of a risk taker....

So, because some people are fuckwits unions are evil?

For some of us, unions have been essential. When I first started teaching, our local board seemed to think that we were still in the 19th Century, so far as professional respect was concerned. It got so bad that we were essentially dared to go on strike, so we did. The voters were outraged and fired the entire board. The new board fired the superintendent. Within a few years we have put together a very good working relationship with both the board and the administration, have one of the highest rated districts in the nation, get comfortably paid and still manage to be fiscally responsible. It all depends on the union and it's leadership.

In my neck of the woods, Ace and True Value don't sell lumber...or a myriad of other things you can only find at Home Depot. I go to Ace and True Value when I can, but I'm not going to go to three different stores to get supplies for one project if one piece of the project can only be found at Home Depot.

I see your point about buying American. I think there's going to be a big push for that in the future. It would seem to be the most sensible way to shore up our economy, but convincing the masses of such a strategy could be difficult.

The first step is for Congress to develop enough cojones to eliminate the corporate financial "incentive" to export manufacturing overseas. You didn't know that was part of the corporate welfare in this country? Surprise!

I worked for a company (a few years ago) that moved the technology department to china. The company did not receive any tax break, or incentive or anything from the government. What they were able to do was hire 3 Chinese for each American that was let go (however it did take the Chinese programmers to do what one American could do)…anyway, after two years the company closed the china office and moved the jobs back to America.

The only incentive for moving over seas was cutting expenses by 2/3. Maybe the company that I worked for did not have a top notch tax attorney but the CEO was an x gore speech writer.

Manufacturing….I’m sorry but there will be no new manufacturing jobs in union states. The union makes the cost of employment too high and if a company does open a manufacturing plant up north, 99% of the work will be done by robots.

When you look at new plants being opened, the plants are in “right to work states”, and Mexico and this sucks. The uaw is run by a jackass that is on a mission to stop the big 3 bail out.

and I see your point about shopping at 3 different locations....I hate shopping!

I'm okay with Home Depot...I'm not okay with Wal Mart.

teaching, I'm sorry but this is nuts...teachers should earn a min of 50k after 5 years on the job....

that is part of my gripe with Wal Mart....you get poeple bitching to buy america and keep jobs in america....yet they shop at wal mart. granted a lot of wal marts are "super stores" and love the idea of one stop shopping.....
