OK, we all know there is that one song, or one style of music, that just takes over your body, and you can't help but get up and dance, without a care for what others around you think. Currently anything Techno or House is the style that I find so powerful, I'll jump up just about anywhere and start dancing.

What I want to know is what kind of music has that effect on you? Experiences? I'm very curious, so let me know...

Most stuff by The Cure seems to make things happen for me.

Hmmm...

Artist? Aerosmith...no comparison for me. Music and lyrics are hot.

single song? The Eagles, Hotel California. That song seems to be in my blood, partof my soul. I hear it start and I can not stop myself from airguitar/singing. I have been known to embarrass people close to me by my antics, but I just can't help myself.

at times, Guns and Roses or Ozzy does it for me too. If I am in that kind of mood...look out!

I have a very organic response to the music of folky White chick singer/song-writers who play acoustic guitar ... e.g. Ani "the goddess" DiFranco & Sheryl Crowe

Ditto, for old Black acoustic country/Blues men from the Mississippi Delta. e.g. Blind Lemmon Jefferson & Robert Johnson

Also Icelandic techno ... e.g. Gus Gus & Björk

Early 1990s grunge/alt-rock e.g. Nirvana & The Smashing Pumpkins

Motown Music e.g. Marvin Gaye & Smokey Robinson

1980s pop e.g. Duran Duran & Prince

1980s modern rock (new wave) e.g. Depeche Mode & The Cure

Beethoven's ninth symphony in D minor, opus 125 (especially the Gustav Mahler arraignment)

Carl Orff's Carmina Burana - O Fortuna!

Richard Strauss' "Thus Spake Zarathushtra" (oh my god! it's full of stars)

George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" (which reminds me of Manhattan -- the movie and the island)

And most of all ...

Paula Abdul's "Vibeology"

No one genre has this effect, but good rap and techno will make me want to at least bob my head.

Dating myself.

I love that 80's beat.

Gawd how I love that.

right now,

Tom Waits first album

"Closing Time"

I hadnt heard it in too long. I had it on vinyl when it came out in the 70's. Been a fan since he arrived in stores...

Tom's a poet who speaks to me in a lot of ways
And this album is just so bluesy and smoky and heartfelt-

just what I need (like a hole in the head?) today.

I think I'll listen to Beck next,
Another poet that speaks to this bird...:rose:

Actually I have to be in the mood. I'm much more likely to bust out singing along then dancing but that's just b/c I don't have a lot of confidence in my abilities as a dancer...I know I can sing to a point so its easier for me to do that. However, when I'm at a track meet and pysching myself up for the long jump I have specific music that I listen to. AC-DC thunderstruck (live), metallica astronomy, one, fade to black, nothing else matters, fuel, whiskey in the jar, die die die my darling, enter sandman and a few others. When I'm back there on the runway and everything else just fades away as i get into the zone and such I bounce around, and just according to one coach "make a fool of myself", I don't care it is just me going with the music and I use those specific songs because their beat is extremely close to the rhythm of my steps down the runway.
