Ugh, I have adjectivitis and bad case of repeats

Mine was the phrase 'as if'. Pretty much gotten out of the habit though.

Used to be bad with adjectives as well. Maybe I still am, but I'm not as much a grammar nazi as some people.

I had a big addiction to the -ly adverbs too, so now I look for them and try to keep them to a reasonable number. "Began to" used to show up a lot as well. As for crutch words, I seem to go through phase of using a particular one, until I move on to the next. "Crescendo" (as both a noun and a verb" was it for me for a while.

I'm editing a story for Phaze's next publication of Coming Together and I'm finding that this early 2004 story has the -ly disease. Also in my nip-tucking and rewriting, I noticed I have a deep (sick) infatuation for the words "momentarily" and "beg". I'm so glad there is a find-replace feature in Word.

Anyone else have a crutch word? What words do you do a global search for on your finished story in your editing?

I don't seem to have a problem with -ly words anymore, but I'm sure I have a problem with many other things. Slid, slipped... Ugh. My brain is dead.

The great thing, at the moment, is I'm working on a novel that hasn't got a thing to do with sex. :nana: (It's a murder novel, in collaboration with my mother. She's got a very wicked mind. :D)

I start an awful lot of sentences with "And." And I don't know how to stop that...

Oh me too on the AND....
We use it in Speech but to use it as a sentence starter.... UGH LOL ...

I seem to have a penchant for
effervescent
ephemeral
incadescent LOL
all those 10 dollar words

I am sure I have other bad habits too LOL

I write an awful lot of run-on sentences, as well-- I have to use "and", just to break a few of them up!

:D Sentences that run away and establish a life of their own. As long as they don't ask for monetary support.

In my Nude Day story both editors mentioned that my use of AND was excessive

I love my 10 dollar words. They add a sprightly, effervescent quality to my work. ;)

To be pedantic, the word should be "adverbitis".

My writing has been always be terse and lean, and is now honed to such a degree that I haven't been able to write anything at all for over two years.

My current WOP is running at a little more than 68,000 words.

Of those 68k the words 'slowly', and 'moment' (usually in the form of "after a moment".) make up about 35,000 of those words.
