UC Merced Blows $80,000 to Promote Communism and Sexual Depravity
This offers some insight into why college costs are shooting through the stratosphere, despite being coercively subsidized by the government:
The University of California–Merced (UCM) spent $80,000 in a self-described attempt to advance ideas of “economic justice.”
Although “economic justice” is normally understood to mean “communist tyranny,” the educrats at UCM have broader goals:
According to the school’s official website, UCM aims to create a “society in which the distribution of resources is equitable” and promote “cultural awareness.”
To bring these goals to term, the university created a special “Social Justice” department which hosts annual events such as the “National Coming Out Awareness” week and a “Multicultural Odyssey in San Francisco.”
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Charles Nies lays to rest worries that money fleeced from students and taxpayers is being used by this public university to advance a leftist political agenda:
“We wouldn’t use student fees to advance any political views. … That [pride week] is promoting human dignity, right? … The idea of supporting human dignity… I didn’t realize there was a political division on whether or not we are supporting human dignity.”
A liberal educrats’ conception of “human dignity”:
Coming out in San Francisco.
Here’s how letting libs run our universities affects the cost of education:
Tuition at the University of California (UC) has risen dramatically over the past two decades. According to the UC’s Budget for Current Operations, tuition and fees were just $1,624 in 1990-91 compared to $12,192 in the 2011-12 school year.
Don’t worry, Obama has nationalized student loans. Provided you belong to a politically correct special interest group, you should have no trouble acquiring enough of other people’s money to pay for college no matter how high tuition goes. As for paying back the massive loans required — that would not be consistent with the principles of “economic justice.”
