The South Carolina beauty queen who suffered a geographic meltdown over "U.S. Americans" during last month's Miss Teen USA pageant can now have the last laugh, with the chance to make up to $25,000 a day as a model for Donald Trump.

Lauren Caitlin Upton, 18, of Lexington, S.C., reportedly flew to New York City today to begin employment for Trump Model Management.

"My lifelong dream has been to travel the world and pursue my modeling career," Upton told WIS-TV. "Randomly, [my mistake] has offered me that opportunity."

Upton was attempting to answer a final question during the Miss Teen USA pageant in Pasadena, Calif., Aug. 24.

When asked about the reason why some Americans could not locate the U.S. on a world map, Upton said:

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

After the incident was seen by millions on YouTube and network news, Caitlin recounted the crucial moment at the pageant: "All of a sudden, I was asked this random question I was not expecting. I was in such shock."
Anyone would be! In shock, I mean.

Wonkette.com speculates that Upton may use some of her newfound wealth to purchase maps for other U.S. Americans. So far, there are no plans for Upton to visit The Iraq.

I would think, Shereads, (says Amicus, with a twinkle in his blue eyes), that you would be heralding Ms. Upton, as a poster child for socialized education in America; that is your end product.

As Classical education in the United States was given the boot as a result of the 60's 'flower power', generation, wherein a 'kinder, gentler' form of permissive education was preached and 'opinions' were held as fundamental and those nasty facts, truths and absolutisms of real knowledge were foregone, you finally have a product of that educational system as indicative of your desires.

Give the poor girl a break, she worked hard to ignore reality and concentrate on the social skills; she rightly followed your advice and is selling her best asset, which turns out not to be her mind or skills, as neither were cultivated in twelve years of forced conveyor belt propaganda.

The chickens are coming home to roost and you cruelly reject them? Sighs, the injustice of it all.

She's hardly a shining example of public education.

But I suppose that the school systems using "Classical education" turned out no beautiful, or talented athletic morons. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

You can buy a child books, but you can't stop them from eating the damned things.

Is she a blonde or is that politically incorrect to even ask?

She is blonde.

I'm not speculating on whether that's natural.

And I'm not speculating on you being politically correct, either.

I think the message that the culture is giving us is that you don't need talent, intelligence or a unique sense of the world to achieve fame. You just need to be able to get people to pay attention to you in any way possible. That's how that YouTube shemale who attained fame by screaming from their bed-fort about how 'everyone should leave Britney alone' is getting a TV development deal. That's how people are rewarded for lack of talent. Development deals. There's hope for us all.

I wouldn't speculate on his being correct, never mind the political part. ;)

But fortunately there's a separate culture of people who don't value fame, notoriety or glitz and laugh at it. Like here.

People like this are entertainment. They're not value.

Yeah, I don't value any of the Lohans, Spears, Hiltons of the world. To me, they're just pop culture humor fodder. The people that should be idolized are invisible to the culture. To me, that has poisoned the entire society. A lot of young blacks idolize rappers and athletes who promote ideals like financial excess and dominance over women and young whites(especially girls) idolize young debutantes whose self-destructive and self-serving lifestyles offer no empathy for anyone but themselves.

There is always Oprah or Regis and Kelly, or a dozen other, 'entertainment' venues, the programs I am speaking of are billed as 'news' programs. I am also disturbed, after a long career in broadcasting, to listen to anchor people do their, wanna, coulda, woulda, shoulda, bits, instead of want to, could have, et cetera, sighs...

Since we're all throwing PC out the window here, I'll just go ahead and say it.

If she WASN'T blonde and the "right" skin tone this bullshit NEVER woulda come to pass. At least not in Trump's camp.

A large number of attractive models, who can expect to remain nameless catalog filler for the greater part of their careers, are anything BUT stupid. She should thank the Gods of Hot Ass that her privilege and stupidity got her a cut in line.

Trump's thinking "Thank you God, it's my next wife!"

You can bet she'll be smart enough to look at the pre-nups, though.

In my younger life I had a serious shot at fame and fortune. Turns out I didn't like the taste.

So by making a conscious choice to turn away from it, I know the difference between being separate from that world, and buying into it. I know how far I could be in, and I know how far I am out. Therefore - I can measure my distance from it.

I made the choice you mention - the unsung person. I'm not aspiring to hero. You tend to get sung then. I believe that privacy is the one commodity you can never buy back, I'm hanging onto mine.

I've met so many pretty but stupid if not cruel people from so many nationalities/races/gender choices I just think your experience is limited about those who aspire to be "in the biz."

Yeah, but you're inside that well-insulated bubble. The view's entirely different from outside. Media itself is entertainment. You may think "news" has adherent fans, but so does Michael Jackson. I'm sure it's not about intellect. Or they wouldn't be so careful to make the entire package attractive or rebellious, to appeal to a particular demographic.

I cannot believe that shes still going to make an assload of money after that stupid response. I posted a thread about her a ways back, called the dumbest shit Ive ever seen... I'm not saying that she should be dirt poor (although I'm sure poverty would help her develop some character) but come on, shes a shell, lights are on and no one is home. She should do some porn then we can talk about letting her try to be a model.

I'm not buying that Diva.....although I am a generation ago, I still maintain that many viewers would opt for 'hard news', without the entertainment floss, I am willing to bet I could generate a top rated show on a cable network station doing only hard news, with men only reporters and no mention whatsoever of the Michael Jackson contingent.

But then...I have been wrong before, I could flop like a flounder.

Here we need to clarify your definition of "Hard News" - facts, figures, statistics? Or highly inflammatory opinion and spin about it that attracts rubbernecking?

"Men Only" is inflammatory enough.

Brings to mind an image of Sean Hannity doing the nightly news . . . .

The English tongue changes all the time. New words get added. other words fall out of favor, and pronunciations mutate and evolve. That is a big part of what makes it such a robust language.

I don't disagree that language changes, but the examples I used are just laziness and an attempt to use common slang to relate to others and I object to that.
