Two women succeed in shutting off all TX state & local govt $$ to abortion providers

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas signed a bill into law that bans local governments from funding abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood.

Senate Bill 22 prohibits the state and local governments from contracting with abortion providers for any services at all, and ends “sweetheart rent deals,” such as one arrangement a Planned Parenthood facility had with the city of Austin for one dollar per year.

The legislation ultimately protects taxpayers from granting funds to abortion providers through state and local taxes.

...State Sen. Donna Campbell (R) and State Rep. Candy Noble (R) sponsored the Texas legislation.

Texas Right to Life celebrated the new law on Twitter:

Thank you @GovAbbott for signing Senate Bill 22 into law! TX taxpayers are now protected from subsidizing abortion providers & affiliates thru state & local tax dollars, marking the next step in removing all public funds from the abortion industry #txlege #prolife

Good.

Government shouldn't be in the business of either promoting or prohibiting family planning services either directly or indirectly.

You want an abortion? Go find a doctor who'll do it and who'll charge you for it and who has medical malpractice insurance in case he/she screws up.

You know, just like every other medical procedure.

Just because abortion is legal doesn't mean the government should have to fund it with taxpayer money.

You have no idea how obtuse this sounds.

Or maybe you do.

Either way, I don't really care. After all, if you want to look like an idjit in public, who am I to stand in your way...

On the flip side, I also believe that the gov SHOULD BE in the business of promoting contraception in certain circumstances.

Low income citizens should have access to low cost or free contraception. Why? Because if it's free and available and a child support claim is made from a single parent, then that claim should be denied on the basis that the child was "wanted" and not accidental.

If the child is "wanted" then the parent should have made plans BEFORE the pregnancy occurred to be sure the welfare of the child is secure. If the parent couldn't do that due to circumstances such as income/etc, then the pregnancy should have been prevented through contraception.

Failure to do that, means you're on your own absent other circumstances which would trigger WIC or other programs.

It really comes down to this: If you want an abortion, go have one. Don't ask me for permission OR the money for it. If you get preggers and don't want to have an abortion, don't ask me to pay for raising your kid. If you can't do either, then don't get preggers in the first place.

This also applies to guys. If you want a kid yet need me to help you out financially in order to raise it, don't have the kid in the first place. Don't adopt, don't get full custody, don't do any of the things that seem to be common place these days.
