Two Roads Diverged

[Angelus]

I sat there and watched the two women walk out of the cafe and wondered if fate was playing a damn good practical joke on me. Destiny had given me a good swift kick in the ass by showing me the one woman that was my mystery woman- the one I had called and was probably destined to be with and then showing me that she was with another man, my best friend. I turned to him after he had ordered our lunch with a grin. He saw the grin and instantly knew that something was up.
"Okay you grinning fool, what is it."
"It's nothing much. I just thought that you could take Kat out on a date and I know the perfect place that you can go."
"Oh yeah, where is this perfect place and does that mean that you are over your little mood over Kat and myself?"
"Oh hell yeah. I know that you two deserve each other and I wish you the best of luck... so do you want to know the place or not?"
"Okay- what's the name of the place?"
"It's called Tony's, it's on the corner of-"
"I know the place and you are right. It would be a perfect place to take her. I think I will take her there tonight."
"No wait. I didn't mean that you had to go there tonight," I said, instantly worried.
"Why not. This is as good a night as any."
The only thought that was in my head was Oh shit!

As we walked back to the office Sarah grilled me "So... is that the guy you screwed last night."
"Not exactly"
"Dammit you are the queen of the phrase today. What exactly happened?"
"Well..." I told her everything, from the answering machine to the number on his palm.
"Funky, i swear, if i didn;t know better you're life is being filmed."
"And sometimes i wish the director would just yell cut"

The day wore on forever, it was about 10 minutes til i could go home when my phone rang.

"Kat?"

Craig

As soon as lunch had finished the two of us walked upstairs and to our offices, watching as the time dragged on. After what seemed like days I looked at my watch to see that it was five and got up out of my seat and logged off my computer then headed for the elevator to see Alex standing there waiting for me.
"Come on slow poke. The night is going to be over by the time you get here."
I didn't say a word but puched him lightly on the arm then got into the elevator as soon as the doors opened. As soon as we were outside the two of us caught a taxi which took us to our apartment building. The two of us walked into the building where we ran up the stairs. We went to our apartments but before we did Alex and I turned to each other and shouted out, "Good luck on your date!"

God dammit, "What the fuck do you want Roger? Why are you calling me at work?"
"I figured you would just screen is i tried to call you at home" true, "This way i can acutally talk to you."
"I don;t want to talk to you ok, just get the clue."
"Kat I love you"
HA "HA! you love me enough to screw by best friend. Leave me alone."
"I want to come over tonight. We need to talk."
"well i have a date tonight so, no." I hung up the phone before he could react. When i turned around Sarah was standing there.
"You have a DATE! and you didn't tell me!!"
"I don't have a date, i just didn;t want to see Roger"

We walked out to the curb and flagged down a cab. "Maybe he really is sorry."
"Well i'm not gonna find out."

I could hear Craig's TV as i walked past his apartment. something in me wanted to stop and knock but i kept going.

I checked my messages as soon as i got in. Two were from Roger, One was Beth, and the last was Alex.

After I watched the news I looked down at my watch and when I saw the time I jumped up and shouted out, "Shit!"
I raced to the bathroom, taking off my clothes as I did and falling to the floor with a thud while trying to take my pants off. After I got up I threw my pants across the floor and took off the rest of my clothes then jumped into the shower, jumping back when the cold water hit me. After I turned the heat up on the shower I stood under the water and allowed it to wash my cares away. I grabbed the soap and began to wash myself all over before I grabbed the shampoo and washed my hair, thinking that I needed a hair cut.
As soon as I finished the shower I wrapped a towel around my waist and walked out into the hallway. The first thing that happened was I tripped over my pants and fell to the floor. I got up and looked behind me then picked up my pants and mumbled something under my breath as I walked into my bedroom and got dressed for my date. I had no idea what we were going to do and I felt as nervous as hell. As soon as I was dressed I walked out of my apartment, locked the door and rushed down the stairs.
I hailed a cab as soon as I walked out of the building and jumped in the back, telling the driver to take me to Tony's. On the drive there I started getting increasingly nervous, wondering if she would like me or hate me at first sight. Before I knew it the cab was stopping in front of the restaurant. I walked out and the first thing I saw was the woman standing there, she walked up to me, "Are you Craig?"
"Yeah, I'm Craig."
"Alex was right when he describe you... you are cute."
I didn't know what to say... I was totally stunned.

At first I didn't know what to say..... I mean it was the first woman in a while that had called me cute. It had totally thrown everything that I was going to say right out the window and all I could do was stand there with a really stupid smile on my face. I then felt the tap on my shoulder and looked to see the woman, the woman who's name I couldn't remember right now looking straight at me, "Well, are we going into the restaurant or not because I want to spend some time in the restaurant with you not stand out here on the sidewalk."
"Ohhh.... ummm- sure. Let's go and get some food."

I settles onto the couch and replayed Alex's message: "Hey Kat, I know this is gonna sound pushy.. but I feel i owe you a dinner for my behavior last night. PLease indulge me... and meet me at Tony's at 7:30"

Hour and a half.

I looked down at myself, looking tired from work. If i'm goning to look fabulous i have to start now.

I leaped from the couch and hopped in the shower... in the 20 minute shower i bathed, shaved and brushed my teeth. I hopped right back out and got down to the nitty gritty.. Thank got for a hair drier with an extension cord. I half dried my hair while seaching my closet for something that looked even remotely sexy, best option was an almost too short red dress and plattform heels. i tossed them onto the be and mae my way back to the bathroom Calculating how much time i had left... 20 in the shower, 15 at the closet... takes 20 minutes to get to Tony's from here so 30 minutes.. now 25 to get this all done... ARHG!
I finished my hair in record time, put on just enough make-up to get noticed then barreled into the bedroom with 10 minutes to get dressed i fished out some sexy panties and a bra, and being in a "have to get laid" mood a gaterbelt and stockings. ALl red.. except for the stockings.
I made it out the door with 2 minutes to spare.
I hailed a cab and was at tony's in record time, Alex however was nowhere in sight. I stood outside and waited. Praying i didn't just get stood up.

As I walked towards the entrance of the restaurant with Denise I thought that I saw someone very familiar standing out on the sidewalk looking absolutely stunning. I knew that it couldn't be her but when I looked again I saw that it was Kat and I thought to myself Damn, what is she doing here? Alex!

I walked quickly towards the entrance, hoping like hell that she didn't see me. As soon as we entered the restaurant we were shown to a table that was unluckily for us seemingly out in the open so anyone could see us sitting there. I looked at Denise and she smiled at me as the waiter came up and asked us what wine we wanted.

As soon as the waiter left I looked at Denise and said, "Sorry if I seem so nervous. I have never been on a blind date before."

Denise laughed at me, "This is the first I have been on if you would believe that."

I looked at her and said, "I doubt if I can believe that one.... you are easily the most beautiful woman here."

Denise blushed at that remark and I smiled, "It is the truth."
