Turn, turn, turn...

Part of the incidental music of my life: RIP Dave. That wasn't one of his songs, though, it was Pete Seeger's.

With a little help from the Book of Ecclesiastes.

Of all the songs inspired by the Old-Testament, this is right up there with Leonard Cohen's "Story of Isaac."

When I was growing up I had to attend catechism classes. The person teaching the class used this song to teach one of her lessons.

The OP reminded me of a friend who vanished about a decade and a half ago. He was German but wrote stories in English. His frequent fault was that his characters almost always 'turned to speak' so often that they must have been spinning like tops. At the time I also had faults that he pointed out.

But I still miss him (and his wife).

This was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, but version by The Byrds probably sounds the best. This has better audio quality than the live versions I've found.

And Gerry Goffin has also passed. He and Carole wrote some wonderful songs.
