Morning Wat.

I'd be looking at an AR dude. If you enjoy DIY stuff get a kit from Palmetto State Armory. All you need is a vise, a nylon/rubber headed hammer, pliers, a screwdriver, and a roll pin punch set. Oh, and a torque wrench capable of a 30 ft.lb setting. Takes no more than 2 hrs to slap one together. Once you have the lower set up you can switch between carbine (16 in barrel) and rifle (20 inch barrel) just by switching the upper and do in in seconds. The accessories available are damn near infinite. It's the "Barbie Doll" for guys.

Yeah . . . , but . . . .

I'll look at one of those later.

I would like to get a 20" upper for the AR knock-off I have, and maybe a decent sighting system. We'll chat as we go along, since I keep getting Trump tax cut "stimulus" payments. Did I mention that I put a big hunk of that into a matching fund at work for retirement?

Yeah, I make too damn much money and I just can't spend it all fast enough . . . .

They have a good selection of uppers but you generally have to wait for the 20" barrels. They sell out fast.

Sights. What a blizzard of choices there are out there. My son went with the EO-Tech holographic. I really, really like it..........but it costs more than the damn rifle. It doesn't matter where your eye is at, if you can see through the sight and the dot is on your target..........you're going to hit it.

I went with a lower end red dot. It's less forgiving as to where your eye is at but it works well for me.

My next sight investment for the AR is an infra-red (thermal) night sight. But they're real $$$$ and a ways down the road.

I'd still re-barrel it. But that's just me. If you're going to use it for hunting then maybe just chamber reaming it is best. Before I made my decision though I'd drive a soft lead bullet through it and measure the groove and lands dia. to see what condition the current barrel is in. Paying to have a near shot out barrel chamber reamed would be pointless. I'd also have a competent gun smith check for throat erosion.

You may have a problem there. Not with the rebarreling, that's almost trivial. Sourcing the correct replacement barrel could be an issue. I'm out of here to have my Fri. breakfast and debriefing with the DEA and others. But when I get back I'll dig up some contacts re. 03's that you can contact directly to see what's what and how much.

OK, that's different then. It is a snap. Pick your cal. pick your barrel length and profile and get'er done. You can ship directly to a manufacturer, licensed gun smith, etc. and receive it back without having to deal with the 4473 form.

If you have a competent gun smith locally, just order the barrel and take it all to him/her.

If I were going for a high end barrel ala Shilen/McMillan or such I'd have them do the whole thing. They'll mount it, index it, head space it and test fire it before they ship it back.

There's a shop which used to be operated by an old USMC armorer. He died, damn him. He built ARs and 1911s. He was talked up by some of the really good shooters at the local high power matches.

The guy who took the shop over, I don't really "feel". He seems okay and he says the right things, but I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling like I'ma gonna be dropping hard-earned Yanqui dollars there and love him longtime GI.

He did refer me to a guy regarding the chamber reaming who builds match rifles. I called him and talked to him for a few minutes over the phone, and I got a much better feeling about him. I know, go figure. But when my old phone took a shit, I lost his number.

So I'm back to Skwar Wun . . . .

Make sure your AK is complete with the bayonet. Mine looks so cool when it is affixed and brandished.

:D

I recommend it for everyone. Not everything. I don't think one would look good on an AR...

Being the Approval Whore that I am, I'll be sure to see what they can do to hook a bruthuh up, so to speak.

Got the truck inspected. Had to jump through a hoop regarding the damned driver's door glass. That's been a nuisance since year before last. I may need to strip the door and make a few "adjustments."

Got mah new boots picked up. They fit amazingly well, and baby ostrich is some kinda soft and pliable. They look good and feel good. I shall distribute pictures as promised.

It started raining about 4 hours ago and acts like it can see its way clear (heh) to doing this for another 24 hours. I foresee . . . a nap . . . .

Windows?

Praise be to Allah that they are not that anal here...

So? These boots are made for walkin'? ;) ;)

The glass has to be sound, all of it. And safety-rated, which all factory glass has been for many decades now

And the driver's window has to roll down a bit and return.

For handing your papers through, to see if they are . . . in order . . . .

And since they're the cunts that make the rules, you see . . . . I almost said "whom" before I recalled their inhumanity.

I was thinking that the state might actually have a position in their inspection stations for an "Official State Seat Sniffer." I think some prime candidates even post on this forum. :D
