A bit of BT nonsense

The honeysuckle is blooming so I ride home from work with the windows down.

Ahhh, I remember the Honeysuckle from Arkansas, it was so strong as to almost be overpowering. And the Night Blooming Jasmine from the lake property in FL. Oh, and the Gardenia. None of that grows well out here.

The heavy work is all done. I also cooked up some rockfish for dinner. Now, time to get the babybacks salted and spiced for tomorrow.

Slept all day, and then some. Got up and put some sweet potato in the steamer and then went to read when I went to check on the sweet potatoes I realize I hadn't turned it on.

Started the pots and then took the pups out for a walk. It's been a few days but the old boy is
finally almost healthy and up to stretching his legs again. I came back to round two of the pots
being filled and the smell of peameal bacon and eggs cooking. Looks like a good day so far.

Morning Wat.

Windier than hell last night, hopefully the wind calms down this AM.

Need to run a short errand today and clean out the car. I still have my 'winter' kit in it. (Layers of various coats and wind breakers.) I have a nice Porterhouse marinating in the fridge as a reward for all the piddlin' little things I'll be doing today.

Ordered a red dot reflex sight for the AR and a trim die for the 300 WM. The youngest has a $500 EOTech mounted up on his AR. It's a great sight but I find it hard to justify paying as much, more actually, than I did for the rifle to begin with.

Perusing the bank account, I see where an Amazon vendor bailed out on a book order for the cat's g/f. We bought her e shop manual for (what's left of) her car.

So I found a new old stock one for a few dollars more, prime, and ordered it. It'll be here Tuesday. And that will solve that.

Rumi: The Real Work
(thanks to Pham C.)

There is one thing in this world that you must never forget to do. If you forget everything else and not this, there's nothing to worry about; but if you remember everything else and forget this, then you will have done nothing in your life.

It's as if a king has sent you to some country to do a task, and you perform a hundred other services, but not the one he sent you to do. So human beings come to this world to do particular work. That work is the purpose, and each is specific to the person. If you don't do it, it's as though a priceless Indian sword were used to slice rotten meat. It's a golden bowl being used to cook turnips, when one filing from the bowl could buy a hundred suitable pots. It's a knife of the finest tempering nailed into a wall to hang things on.

You say, "But look, I'm using the dagger. It's not lying idle." Do you hear how ludicrous that sounds? For a penny, an iron nail could be bought to serve the purpose. You say, "But I spend my energies on lofty enterprises. I study jurisprudence and philosophy and logic and astronomy and medicine and all the rest."
But consider why you do those things. They are all branches of yourself.

Remember the deep root of your being, the presence of your lord. Give your life to the one who already owns your breath and your moments. If you don't, you will be exactly like the man who takes a precious dagger and hammers it into his kitchen wall for a peg to hold his dipper gourd. You'll be wasting valuable keenness and foolishly ignoring your dignity and your purpose.

Happy Monday!!!

It would have been busier at home if the weather had cooperated.

And it'll be plenty enough busy this week here at work.

Allah rewards those who get shit done with . . . more shit to get done . . . .

You've noticed that too huh?

I may need a holiday after this weekend and I know I'll need more propane. The fridge has leftover chicken, ribs and burgers in it already and the guys are smoking a giant pork loin today. That is one good thing, I haven't had to cook anything since Thursday.

And I use a kanban board to keep track of things, basically, a giant whiteboard covered in post-it notes denoting stages of "why the hell did I start that" items.
