TSA pat downs and body scans

There is what I think is a very good and point-on article about this issue in the 6 December Newsweek. "Man Versus Machine" by Rafi Ron, former head of security at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport (which speaks directly to the Israelis as discussed on this thread) and now in the States as an airport security consultant.

I'll let the article speak for itself. It's probably on line as well, but anyone who is really interested in reading more on the issue can, I'm sure, find the article.

So good they wrote a song about it!

Comply With Me*

(With deepest apologies to Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen & Frank Sinatra)

Comply with me, before you fly away
Remove those shoes and take a cruise
Through my peekaboo X-ray
Comply with me, I'm your friendly TSA

Comply with me, you domestic coach class bums
If you opt out I'll just give a shout
To my icy-handed chums
Comply with me, bend over here it comes

Two of six verses, check them all out. :D

A little retrospect here, if I may...not that it matters...

I didn't live in Nazi Germany...I wasn't a Jew or even a Gypsy, both of whom and many more were 'surveilled' in there every move. Nor did I live in the Soviet Union, although I did approach an East German border and saw the steel blue eyes of a Russian soldier behind a machine gun and felt the oppression that hung in the air.

I am an American, who has travelled extensively, in country and out, an in country, all I needed was a valid ticket to board a bus, train or airplane and no one hassled me in any way.

It was a tense time in the 70's as I toured Europe and had my Passport stamped at each border...even then... I understood.

I do not like it now that America is showing 'police state' policies of search and seizure, like the Nazi's and the Communists, even though I surely understand the threat of Terrorism that has prompted such indignities.

I do not think the western world knows how to deal with the terrorist mentality of Islam; I do not think that even most Americans are aware of from where and whence the threat comes.

I do know, with certainty, that things will not continue as they are. I do know that the source of Terror must be addressed...I do not know just how and when this will come to pass.

TSA no too good at therir job?

Enhanced pat down distract searchers from job.

Experts say every year since the September 11 attacks, federal agencies have conducted random, covert tests of airport security.

A person briefed on the latest tests tells ABC News the failure rate approaches 70 percent at some major airports. Two weeks ago, TSA's new director said every test gun, bomb part or knife got past screeners at some airports.

30% is not passing, is it?
