What goes through your mind when someone says this?

Red flashing lights? Because you have been burned by someone who said that?

Or

It is easy for you to grab that hand and jump?

So far, everyone in my life I've placed my trust in, save three people, has betrayed it. So, I am not a trusting person by any standard. People I make friends with are constantly surprised as they get to know me, because I am like an onion. As I grow to trust a person I share more and more of myself with them, but once someone betrays my trust it's gone forever.

Depending on the severity of the "what if", I'd generally trust them. It also depends on my "sixth sense" of what I pick up about that person. Now, if it's an obvious situation like an emergency, and it was a cop, fireman, or soldier, it's like a "no duh".
**Why the question? Still putting out the embers from getting burned? **

No embers here. I was talking with someone yesterday who took my hand and jumped. He is still wondering if he done the right thing.:) I keep saying...trust me!!!

Depends upon the situation.

Those red lights start flashing if my kids come up to me,bat those innocent eyes and the sentence starts off with "Trust me mom....."

Must have been an interesting jump.....care to elaborate? :D

Very interesting jump:)

I am too spontaneous and don't think of the consequences. It is nice to have someone grab my hand and run with me. I will consider the reprecussions later. :D

You still are being elusive, mysterious, which only fires my curiosity even more! Care to elaborate further? You can always claim the fifth amendment, however........:D

*Eying that person, watching their body language* Responding, "Why should I trust you?" Waiting for response.
I gauge each situation, depending on body language, verbal response and eye contact for hints as to their honesty/integrity etc.
I try to be fair. Judging no one but accepting them on face value, are they trusty worthy to me (instinct wise ) or not?

Depends on who is saying it and what my relationship is with that person.

A salesman of any kind who says "trust me" is automatically suspect. SHOW me, I don't WANT to trust you.

A dear friend? In an instant.

A co-worker? Depends. What is my track record with that person?

A politician? I don't think so.

Trust from me comes slowly. Wasn't always that way, but I've been burned WAY too many times after hearing them 2 lil' words. *sigh*

"Trust me" coming from the mouths of some can also mean "Fuck you.".... So, I've learned to proceed with caution. Yes, trust from me can take some time, but once you've earned it, it's yours. :)

I would love to say I'm a completely trusting person...but there have been many times when I've placed my trust in the hands of another only to realize they didn't give that trust with their heart. Deep down inside when I hear someone utter those words, I get a very uneasy feeling. I wish that wasn't the case, though.

Now, when my son says those "dreaded" words to me, well, that is another story completely. That's when I know I'd better run for the hills or leave town in the dark of night. LOL!

Enjoy your day, Everyone, and make this day the best one you possibly can.

Juicy, (Love these ideas you get woman)!

I'm still stuck on the speaker's side. The phrase "trust me" just has too many built in negatives to ever be spoken by someone who genuinely seeks that trust from another. It just sounds unbelievable, even if they like you! Business or relationship, it doesn't matter.

Cheyenne, any salesperson worth a damn would never say "trust me" in the first place, so if you find one that does run like hell! (I just think, freakin rookie, and walk off).

My feelings are more like "yellow yield lights"... my heart is willing to trust people (especially if I sense sincerity in their eyes and manners), but there's still a little pull of "holding back" until more time passes by. I think it's possibly myself that I really don't trust much most of the time.

Hahaha, those are the most fightening words to ever come out of my kids' mouths, too.:D

Red Lights

Just the opposite of the intended effect, sad to say. And I don't think I could say "trust me" without some kind of disclaimer, either--I wouldn't expect the person I was speaking to to take it at face value either. Even if they were very close friends or relatives.

Anyone who has my trust doesn't need to say "trust me", it's a given.

Exactly - I trust my daughter and a few other people.

Now Lost Cause is another situation altogether - whenever he has said that to me, it has always been a prelude to one of his escapades of mischief. When LC says "trust me", it means "awhh come on, this is going to be fun!" Yeah right.

This is how I think. I think that there are those deserving of trust; I doubt that they would say, "trust me". I think that those who do say, "trust me" are probably not deserving of it. Just a guess. PeterBilt

I am pleading the fifth:D

Cassidy,
elusive, mysterious as ever, lol

It all depends on the person when I hear trust me.

if i don't know them I don't trust them... If I do know them... I don't trust them lol... Unless I know them well and know if they can be trusted..

weee I confused myself lol

I'm not a very trusting person.

That is to say, I trust people to be people, and people are utterly unreliable, so in that, I guess I am trusting. It's just not a very flattering definition of trust.

Now whether or not I'll trust someone to break the mold and do something that's actually trustworthy depends on the person.

A total stranger? Ha ha ha ha ha. Yeah, right.

An acquaintance? Nyeh, tell me more and I might bite.

A trusted friend? Well, they're not called trusted friends for nothing.

A family member? Grudgingly.

Salesmen and politicians? See 'total stranger' only add on wiping away tears of mirth.

It also depends on what I'm supposed to be trusting them for. If someone wants me to simply hear them out before passing judgment, I can do that. If someone wants me to actually do something, that's another matter entirely. If it's a matter of loaning money, I don't loan money. I either give it with no strings attached, or I don't give it at all. Loans mess up relationships.

So it depends. My gut reaction is to laugh.

Exactly - I always love it when they are debating some new law, like one to spy on citizens, and then they in effect say "trust us, we would never use this law to spy on or persecute innocent people, nor to violate their rights!"

Yeah right!
