He's about to put on this huge show of giving grave consideration to his man in Washington's ideas and being so, so worried about possible extra US sanctions (which will never happen)...

... when recognition of his annexation of the Donbass and Crimea were the his aims all along. Together with, of course, an insistence that no US or European troops be placed in Ukraine to guard against what comes next...

• Lithium EV batteries are being replaced with state-of-the-art metallurgy over the next 15 years in the west, but will be in high demand in China for the forseeable future
• Ukraine has the second largest reserve of lithium in the world behind Greenland.
• Over half and perhaps as much of two thirds of Lithium reserves are in Donbass province in eastern Ukraine.
• Donbass was purged of Jews who made up much of professional class in 1940s by Nazis.
• Russia filled vacant Donbass professional class post-WW2 with Russian geologists and engineers
• As a result Donbass has 40% Russian language fluency, most in Ukraine.
• To Putin, Donbass is the crown jewel. Russia can mine Lithium and sell it to China....both countries profit from foreign trade.
• There is no viable ceasefire proposal that Russia will accept without cessation of Donbass to Russia. Everything else is secondary.

India, by far the biggest importer has been paying in Rupees since last summer. This does nothing. Russian oil is currently not trade in US dollars. Russia was kicked out of SWIFT so the banking is already impacted. China and Russia set up a Ruble/Yaun banking swap system last year. This does nothing to further hurt the banking system in Russia.

Trump is a bit late and a dollar shy....
