The British and French occupied Canada to attempt a strong enough foothold to attempt to over take the US they lost to in the Revolution. The US was never occupied. Canada was and eventually ceded independence as the crown and verf could no longer afford to stay in Canada as there was nothing there at the time they could find to plunder.

It’s clear from this that the only difference between Steve Witkoff’s and Vladmir Putin’s views on the war in Ukraine is that Putin actually knows the names of all the five Ukrainian regions he wants to keep.

Witkoff is NOT a mediator or a negotiator. He's in Putin's bed and simply repeating his talking points. Seeing the way Trump and Witkof are falling into line, blinded by mineral and other deals that will never eventuate, Putin isencouraged and motivated to carry on with the war (and to expand its aggression further) as never before, as well as demand even more concessions. because Trump has already conceded everything Putin wants for now. Russia has no incentive to stop, and there is no enforcement. After Putin rejected his ceasefire deals twice, he shifted all the pressure onto Ukraine to force his delusional version of peace. We have a U.S. president ready to throw Ukraine under the bus and ruin NATO for a glass necklace. Everything Trump says and does makes peace look less and less likely and the statements from the US State Dept that Ukraine and Russia are “just a breath away from a full ceasefire” is way out there in la-la land. Even the limited ceasefire hasn't happened. LOL.

Fortunately, Ukraine has a President who has stood up to Putin and led the fight againts Russia for three years now without flinching. They have foufght Russia to a standstill and are now establishing demilitarized zones inside Russia long the border, as well as starting to recapture territory along the frontline here and there.

There has never been a doubt that Ukraine will owe some kind of yet to be determined debt for the support. All Ukraine has ever said is; we need aid now, we can sort out the details later. Not too much dissimilar to England and Russia in WW2.

I believe there already was an arrangement that some if it was loans but I'd have to go looking to confirm. Either way, this is what happens when you make security guarantees and the bill comes due. My take on this is the US refunds Ukraine for the nukes and walks away - about a trillion dollars covers the replacement cost.

When Trump goes along with this and repeats Putin's demands, it'll pretty much be confirmed.
