I know better than you what the "American System" means. It was the policy of the 19th Century Whigs and Republicans. It included a high protective tariff -- but it also included a centralized national bank and massive federal spending on infrastructure, two things to which the GOP in its present formation is markedly hostile.
I learned that in U.S. history class in high school. You, apparently, slept through it.
And I'm no more a Marxist than you are. All theories of historical determinism are fundamentally flawed, and that includes dialectical materialism.

Slavery is actually a bad business model. A large amount of capital is locked up in assets that can literally walk away. The slaves eventually recognize the counter-incentives to productivity and they become unproductive. Abusing the slaves due to their lack of productivity does harm to a valuable asset and further impedes productivity.
Then there's the overhead of housing, food, and healthcare.
These are things the British recognized when they ended slavery and the result was a century-long period of British economic and industrial dominance.
In the US the slave states were relatively poor and the free states were relatively rich due to this paradigm.
In the modern day businessmen abhor slavery for reasons of cost and productivity.
Yet for some reason they always end up hiring managers and HR staff who see employees as slaves.
And none of that was happening before Trump.

The 'American System' was the continuation of Alexander Hamilton's 'American School' social and economic program. It is based on three core policies of 1. Protection of domestic industry, primarily through tariffs and directed subsidies, 2. A national bank that provides direct investment in productive enterprise, and 3. Government investments in infrastructure, particularly in transportation systems (e.g. railroads, canals, etc.)
The American System had a large influence on American politics for most of the first half of the 19th century, particularly after the conclusion of the War of 1812 until the Civil War. The proponents of the American System were successful in most of their goals, with the establishment of the Second Bank of The United States in 1816, somewhat successful in the implementation of tariffs despite strong opposition in the South and the Far West, and marginally successful in the internal improvements. The rise of laissez-faire capitalism in the late 19th century led to reduced support for many of these policies and the third wave of globalism in the late twentieth century would see most of the remaining elements swept away.
As for your second question, no, at least not as the collective system. The current administration is in favor of protective tariffs but not a national bank that actively invests in private enterprise or large investments in infrastructure. The opposition is against tariffs, does not support a national bank for investment in private enterprise but is okay with limited investments, and does support large scale investment in infrastructure.
