Did someone mention Nebraska?!?

I don't know about the rest of the Floridian TCers, but Nebraska is starting to look awfully good to me;)

We've been very lucky here this summer; most of the major storms have kept away from us, and the tornado siren hasn't gone off either! (knock wood!)

Seriously, wishing all the Floridians a safe and solid weekend.

:rose:

Oman is finally heading back home late tomorrow (Friday) after two weeks away! At least we'll have a 3-day weekend together, before he's off again next week.

Stay safe and happy, TCer's!:rose:

I can definitely think of some midwest state that I would rather be in during times like this! ;)

Good luck, IL. Looks like we will get a ton of rain no matter what. Hopefully our east coast friends (Danny and Sorta, among others) will make it through safely and with as little damage as possible.

You know, I was having a total brain fart....I was thinking that you and Sorta/Danny and Winzy were further north...and then I read the post and it hit me...DUH...deep in my brain I knew you were all in Florida. Damn, can you tell Im tired?... I want you all to be safe. Take care all of you. My grandmother is in Ft Lauderdale so Im waiting to hear what her plans are as well. You will all be in my thoughts.

PS -- Thats great about the job, Dreamy! I know its an adjustment, but its all going to be so good for you... I know it is my sweet friend!!! :rose: Be good and be safe!

As those of us that reside in Florida gear up for the 2nd major hurricane in 3 weeks, I am beginning to wonder why I'm living here :D

Funny, I wonder the same thing about people in Florida (AKA the windiest place on earth) all the time. ;)

Stay safe, Floridians.

On a brighter note...in love sex rocks. :D (we got sick of worring, and needed a tension breaker yesterday).

I may be the only person in FL praying we get MORE hurricanes this year!! ;)

Seriously though, this is the first time in the almost 8 years I've been down here that a storm has me nervous. I'm kind of in a no-win situation though cause part of me wants the storm to hit farther north, but my parents are farther north, about an hour drive north of us, so it will be better for me, but worse for them.:(

Their house is only three years old and build to withstand hurricanes but they are only 1.5 miles from the ocean and I've spent two days trying to convince them to come and stay with us but my mom is determined to ride it out in her house because "all of her neighbors are staying." I am so tempted to tell her what she used to tell me as a kid..."And if all of your friends jumped off the Empire State Building, would you do it too???" (Yes I grew up in NYC). I never thought my parents would turn into one of those old couples that refused to leave their home during an emergency and then end up having to be airlifted off of their roofs. sigh.

As far as we go, we're as ready as we can be. The house is concrete block and brick and the shutters are all up. The roof is really low pitched so it gives a very low profile to the wind. The pool is filled and the yard is emptied. I'm only hoping the screen enclosure around the pool doesn't blow off and end up somewhere over the rainbow.

The storm looks like its loosing strength right now but you never know with these damn things. With all due respect to anyone that lives in Georgia, it wouldn't bother me a bit if it slowed down and ended up coming ashore up there. Or maybe just do like some other storms that have threatened us and end up doing a U-turn and heading for Bermuda or back out over the Atlantic.

Sorta and I took a last relaxing swim in the pool tonight with a bottle of wine. God that felt good. So calm and quiet. Definetly the calm before the storm. I tried to warn her what to expect during the storm, but it's really hard to prepare someone for the sound of a hurricane.

I don't know why this is, but for some reason, once the shutters were up and secured today, I felt so much better. I guess just because the house looks prepared and sealed up (even Peanut's doggie door is covered with some plywood, what a blast being in the pool and watching her trying to figure out what the heck happened to her door!! LOL)

Hope everyone stays safe and we'll check in as soon as we can

Stay safe, Floridians.

You sure about Florida being the windiest????? Granted during a hurricane it does get pretty intense, Charley blew 100 mph winds across my little abode, and a strong tropical storm can come in at 75mph, but the rest of the time it's pretty mild.

Unless they take a direct hit, they should be fine. The vast majority of the devistation after Charley (save for Punta Gorda which got hit head on) was mobil homes and older homes. My house is 20 years old and doesn't have the latest building codes, but aside from roof shingles and tree branches it stood up pretty darn well. Now the storm surge and the expexted 20" of rain is a different story.........

And not to appear morbid, but I have often wondered if herding everyone into public shelters wasn't just to make finding the bodies easier.

I personally think that all of my Floridian friends here should just pack it up and come see me in the foothills of North Carolina. Of course it's a one bedroom apt. but we could have some kind of hurricane party now couldn't we?
I'm worried about you all...I've been fretting to Danny and Sorta the past few days... I told him that hurricanes was the reason I chose to move closer to the mountains here even though I love the ocean so much. I remember just how many hurricanes made landfall along the NC coast when I was living in VA. eek!!
If y'all won't come up to stay with me, batten down those hatches and be safe!! Danny, you could tell your mom that her unofficial 'daughter' is concerned and thinks maybe they should evacuate. lol...not that it will change her stubborn mind...but hey, I tried.

As far as the job front NG...this week was a bit discouraging for me, no calls and only two new applications. I'm trying to be patient, I really am, but I'm beginning to let the boredom of being here home alone all day get to me. Thank God my daughter and her boyfriend are coming down for the Labor Day weekend, it will take my mind of the job thing. I've sworn that if I don't have a job within the next three weeks I will go to a temp agency, even though it means less pay.
Dreamy, hon, I'm glad the new job is going well...I know it had to be horribly hard to leave the babies, but it will get a lil' easier as time goes on, and you're gaining independence and following your dream! You go girl!!!
To everyone else, I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Hope all the Floridians are prepared and that hopefully the storm will miss all of you and your families. And I hope that all of TC'ers have a wonderful, safe weekend. Good luck to all looking for jobs. I know the job market is hard these days. Take care.

Jenny - I know that you will be glad to see Oman tonight. Ya'll have fun and enjoy the long weekend. How much longer does he have to go until he is finished in Chicagoland?

For seemingly a minimum of three weekends a year, yes. :D

Hmmmm, that would make the remaining 49 not to awful bad. So maybe what I need to do is just hire a body guard for a few weekends a year and then spend the rest of the time enjoying paradise :D Ohhhhhh, maybe I could get one that takes his shirt off and has a really nice set of buns

Just heard from Oman, and he's still a few hours away (he's gotten caught in the holiday traffic, and needs a break from the road!). It's great knowing he'll be here before the next sleep!

I'm afraid he'll be off again on Tuesday, but I don't want to think of it until the weekend is over!

Good luck to all in the hurricane's path; hope what I heard is true that Frances is lessening instead of picking up steam!

Have a good weekend, TCers!:rose:

Remember me???

It is soooo great to be back home!! I missed you all!! i got to get caught up with what's been going on!]

For my friends THANK YOU!

Remember Me (My Friend)
You don't need to ask me if I'll be your friend.
I am. I am.
You don't need to ask me if I'm sure my friend.
I am.
I am your friend,
You must remember me.
I'm the one who saw through the world's disguise,
Took away its cloak and made it hide
From me.
Remember me?

Walking on this Earth, finding you,
You, you.
Walking on this Earth, finding you,
You, you.
What can I say?
You don't need to find the words to say what's on your mind.

If you need a reason to begin again,
I am. I am.
You will find an answer at your journey's end.
I am
Waiting there, my friend,
You must remember me,
I'm the one who knew you when,
I'm the one you call your friend,
Feel free,
Remember me.

Walking on this Earth, finding you,
You, you.
Walking on this Earth, finding you,
You, you.
What can I say?
You don't need to find the words to say what's on your mind.

A CONFESSION TO JENNY

: You Are The Woman

You are the woman that I've always dreamed of
I knew it from the start
I saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart

It's not so much the things you say to me
It's not the things you do
It's how I feel each time you're close to me
That keeps me close to you, woh oh

You are the woman that I've always dreamed of
I knew it from the start
I saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart

It's not so much your pretty face I see
It's not the clothes you wear
It's more that special way you look at me
That always keeps me there, woh oh woh

You are the woman that I've always dreamed of
I knew it from the start
I saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart

It's hard to tell you all the love I'm feeling
That's just not my style
You've got a way to send my senses reeling
Every time you smile, woh oh

You are the woman that I've always dreamed of
I knew it from the start
I saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart
I saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart

Of my heart
Oh oh of my heart

Exercise

New exercise routine if you're over 50. You might want to take it easy at first, then do it faster as you become more proficient. It may be too strenuous for some.

Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program!

SCROLL DOWN...

NOW SCROLL UP...

That's enough for the first day. Have some chocolate.

He's home!!

Well, at least for the weekend!

Jeff, that's a great exercise! I promise to do it every day!;)

Welcome back, Liza!

Hope ALL the TCers enjoy a wonderful holiday weekend!:rose:

Quick check in from inside Hurricane Frances. I don't think this SOB will ever end.....fucker is moving at like 5 mph. At this rate when it does finally end, we will have been in the hurricane for close to 36 hours!

Think I got the first feeder band around noon yesteray, things haven't too bad at this point; a bit windy and some rain. But today will be far worse....this has got to be one of the biggest, slowest moving storms in history!

Where is everyone? Oh that's right, it is a holiday weekend ;)

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know it appears I have survived yet another of mother nature's temper tantrums. Still getting rain bands with winds gusting to around 30mph, but the worst is over. Think I'm going to find me a witch doctor before Ivan gets here :D

Anyone out there doing the traditional Bar-B-Q today, have a burger and beer for me......

Well if Ivan gets anywhere close to Florida, I bet you would have more than just me wanting to borrow that spare bedroom ;) We sure have taken a pounding this year.....and we haven't even hit the peak of the season yet :(
