I stole most of one of Lance's posts,...I hope he doesn't mind. I think the subject deserves it's own thread though.

"*troll

1. v.,n. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet
designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives
from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream
"trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for
a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and
flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while
subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate
troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2. n. An
individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious
arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in
email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion.
Trolls are recognizable by the fact that they have no real interest in
learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like
the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming
characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on
the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll." Compare kook. 3. n.
[Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular campus job for CS students. Duties
include helping newbies and ensuring that lab policies are followed. Probably
so-called because it involves lurking in dark cavelike corners"

The purpose of my giving this topic it's own thread, is to point out to all, how BEST to combat a "Troll's Post".

"Ignore it completely, and make NO reference to it whatsoever."

(JMHO),...but it's mine,...and I own it. :rose:

Thanks Art. I think everybody could use a refresher course in troll management from time to time.

I'd hate to say this .... but really, if people don't know by now to NOT acknowledge trolls, sadly they never will.

You'll face them everywhere, even in everyday life, and yes some of them do get to us worse than others, but just like in real life, say what you want to say in your head and not on the boards ... skip their post and move on, it doesn't take that much.

I understand your meaning for this thread Artful, and I say good for you, but as I stated above, if people don't know how to ignore them now, then they never will ... as sad as that is. Then you have others that just want to rile the trolls up, either way you'll never rid yourselves of trolls, they exsist everywhere in every enviroment.

I have no desire to rid the world of Trolls,..,.

...but neither will I intentionally feed them. Feeding the Trolls is likened to NOURISHING them, begging them to continue, giving their POSTS the attention they seek.

Thank you, Artful. I think a reminder on trolls is a good thing from time to time.

SNERT... That's what they call the real trouble-makers of cyberspace. Attributed by some to Kurt Vonnegut, the term stands for "snot-nosed Eros-ridden teenager." It concisely captures much of what many cyberspace deviants are all about. They thumb their impudent noses at authority figures and smear their ooze of discontent all over themselves and others. Frustrated drives seeking an outlet may fuel their misconduct - frustrated aggressive drives as well as sexual ones. They often are adolescents. If they aren't, then they are regressed adults acting like adolescents. In some communities, the term "snert" broadens to include any acting out, annoying, disruptive user.

lmfao..

@ Literotica Kooks and Snerts .. i just call them ASSHOLES plain ,,pure and simple lol

You've just described 99% of the individuals on The Stile Project forum, lol!

This was at the top of the definition. Think about it.
