G'day everyone.
Feeling a tad nervous, never taken part in the hangout or threads before, although I occasionally dip in to your chats and have a few chuckles at your banter.
So why now? Well, this ol' lady was stunned to find herself trolled a few days ago. I was very surprised, and thought about it a while before devising my response to the kind person(s) who amuses themselves with this ubiquituous and pernicious pastime. I finally came up with something that satisfied me, and have posted it on my home page profile, and reproduced below for your perusal:
--------------------------
I had never intended to put any words here, reveal anything of myself; simply to post my stories for, hopefully, the enjoyment of others, allow them to speak for me. But a few days ago, something happened that inspired me to write to you all. I was trolled !! Yup. Over a space of 24 hours, each and every one of my stories was systematically and viciously trashed, sending them plummeting in the overall voting and out of the lists.
At first I was stunned, hurt, angry, and at the same time puzzled as to why MY stories had been chosen for the ritual trashing. I don’t consider them particularly good, they were pleasant reading if the kind, generous and sweet responses I had been receiving, were anything to go on, but nowhere up there with the greats. So I sat and thought for a moment, to the welcome accompaniment of a brandy and coke, and finally saw the positive side of being trolled. Someone out there actually saw my stories to be so good, they were worthy of being trashed. Wow! What an affirmation of my skills as a writer. I was a threat. My ego took an enormous boost at that point, and with a grateful smile on my face, I raised my glass in a silent toast to my anonymous Troll.
There you have it readers and fellow Lit authors. When you get trolled, don’t see it as a negative thing, bugger the voting, its all subjective anyway, see it as I do. An undeniable affirmation of your skills as a writer, someone who’s work is worthy of note, and consequently, worthy of being trashed.
So Mista or Missus Troll, whichever, I know exactly what your devious and spiteful action was intended to achieve, but for me it was completely the opposite. You have enforced my desire to write, to continue to bring pleasure to those wonderful people who read all our offerings on Lit, and provided my flagging ego with a much needed boost. From the bottom of my smutty heart………..I thank you.
Now, I must away to my desk, I feel a story coming on. You might want to look out for it so you can trash that one as well.
----------------------------------------------------
I am aware that my response will probably result in further attacks, and my stories disappearing into oblivion, but this was something I had to do for me.........and all the other writers who have been unjustly hit. I refuse to turn off my voting, that would be giving them exactly what they want.
Just wanted to share it with you lovely people. I don't expect or demand responses, that's not the point, just sharing.
Have a great Sunday everyone.
Love to you all.
