Trojan/Virus Help

Okay this happened to a friend of mine, any suggestions?

I was trying to download Madden 2003 and seemed to have opened the wrong thing.

Would anyone know which Trojan/virus would cause Zonealarm to completely lock up the PC? Boom... no 'net access at home for moi. I cna have access when I uninstall Zonealarm, but I'm VERY hesitant to do so.

Now get this... not only does it cause Zonealarm to lock up the pc, it detects when I have a virus scan running and shuts it down after about 20 seconds. Smart little bastard thing, it is.

Anyone have any idea what it might be and how I would be able to remove it without formatting and re-installing windows, effectively causing me to lose almost everything I have?

many virii are getting so smart these days they can detect and disable you Anti-Virus software. Sounds like you got a trojan inside the Madden game. Also, it sounds like you downloaded it fron KaZaa, that place is rife with fake files and virii....

If you know the file name of the virus/trojan you can boot into "Command Prompt Only" if you're using Windows 95/98/ME. For Windows 2k/XP you should throw in the install cd, and go to the rescue console and delete it from there. But this only works if you know the virus/trojan name.

Another thing is if you can get the pc unlocked is use ctrl-alt-delete and start shutting down everything except for "explorer" and "systray", and if something won't close because it says it's in use by windows that that very well could be your virus/trojan. Also if the task shuts down but comes right back on that could be it also.

I am a big fan of partitions

I keep OS on one by itself, on another I keep the programs ect I dont wanna lose. On yet another I keep crap that is suspect untill I know its ok to use. That way I (hopefully) only llose the stuff on one drive so I dont have to lose everyting. I learned this the hard way *sigh*
