More to do with affairs military than politics but I have no doubt that it'll get political soon enough.

The Ukrainians are in a salient.

Salients are dangerous, they invite an attacker to cut off and envelope those caught in the salient. Looking at the map of current troop dispositions the Russians could drive from Izyum towards Zaporizhzhia and northwards along the same line and envelope the greater part of the Ukrainian forces. The Russians aren't stupid and I'm sure they see the opportunity, the big question is whether they have the forces to pull it off?

The longer the lines remain static the longer the Russians have time to gather their forces for the attempt. The big advantage the Ukrainians have is that they have the interior line and consequently an advantage in mobility. They also are benefiting from Western intel.

The Russians have intel of their own and benefit from knowing where they're going to strike and when.

It's going to get ugly, real ugly.

Going to get? What planet have you been living on??? And if I remember right, when Russia invaded Ukraine there was a prophecy that they would roll over the country in a matter of days and that the Russia forces would suffer little. Hmmmm...so far the reports are 75,000 Russian troops dead and their offensive has been stalled on almost every front. Go figure huh?

If there is one lesson we should have learned from our 2016 election is that a sure thing is never a sure thing. It will, at times, come back and bite you in the ass.

The Russians have a morale problem.

They're going to have to start shooting recalcitrant soldiers to restore "morale."

How many are left to shoot?

Pretty soon the Russians, the poor bastards will have the Ukrainians surrounded. They will be able to shoot in any direction and kill Russians.

I'm still wondering when NATO is going to stick an armored brigade in the Suwalki Gap.

Should have been deployed to that area months ago. Lack of sound tactical planning. An enhanced brigade is supposed to be deployed to Poland also.
