Transgender Activst in Egypt

Where would this person be safe?

So Egypt is dangerous for this person? I don't doubt that for a moment. Their dominant religious culture is not tolerant. But where do you think a safe place would be?

It's not so much about where she would be safe. From the article, I think her mission is to change the place she lives. I put this up to inspire all who can relate to her struggle. And the other reason is to perhaps motivate some of the folks who are active in social messaging to pile on and let her know she's not alone.

She's risking her life to push back against religious intolerance and ignorance. Any small gesture from another person certainly can't hurt. If anyone gets really riled, send messages to people in the Egyptian government. One never knows when a pressure campaign just might make a difference...or save a life.

Thanks for posting Yukon - thought provoking article. Cultural, religious push-back always cites the lame argument of "Why should we have to accommodate you?" as though changing the signage on a restroom door or refraining from hurling abuse in the street or online made their lives less somehow. It's LGBT people who have to tiptoe around, as though we had to continually apologise for being who we are. Good for her: brave woman :rose:
