Browsing google news I found this article on Aljazeera. It follows a story that illustrates how trans rights in Japan and the freedom of the press have locked horns. Given that opinions in the West may be skewed by subjectivity it is perhaps easier to be less biased in making observations about events in Japan?
In reading the piece a question finally popped into my head that I should have asked long ago. The essence of the article is the controversy and cancelling of a book about detransitioning and that asked questions of the 'transgender craze'. The publishing house faced threats by trans activists and cancelled plans to print the book.

Who are these trans activists? I've never met one.

An answer to that is suggested in the final couple of paragraphs...
Hall, whose research focuses on conservative activism in Japan, said he believed right-leaning publisher Sankei, as well as conservative commentators and influencers, had used the controversy to their advantage.

“The conservative activists involved in the importation of Western ‘culture war’ discourse are successfully making money with their own book sales and publication of articles attacking LGBTQ rights activists,” he said.

“With money to be made by igniting anger about this issue, do not expect it to go away soon.”

GCs do this all the time. They write books and articles full of bad science because they know it doesn't matter, that all the anger and criticism from trans people will be ignored by the right wing press as 'activism'.

They whine about cancellation, and get lots of publicity so that they can cry about the fact people might choose not to listen to them, utterly indignant that people aren't required to listen to them, but of course any trans-positive conversation gets shut down immediately and that doesn't count as cancellation for reasons...

Too much money feeding this machine.

Boy, doesn't that explain the motivation behind so many posts on the Political Board of this forum? There are some pros who inhabit almost every discussion forum these days. Some are human and some are robotic.
