The term 'blow job', unlike many sexual slang, is recent, although the etymological root is just as hazy. Stemming from the 1950s, it seems that term 'blow' was a euphemism for 'suck', so in this case, a 'blow job' is actually a 'suck job'.

Furthermore, in the 50s, the word 'blow' was everyday slang for 'speed, faster-than-fast' as was used in close correlation to jets. Military pilots referred to their airplanes as 'blow jobs', because the speed of their jets will 'literally blow you away'. That said, sexual slang is often derived from military or naval expressions, so to be blown away quickly became a euphemism for receiving oral sex.

Now, some scholars (yeah, I kid you not. There are scholars of sexual euphemisms) think that 'blow job' stems from a 'blow off' job, which was used among prostitutes for oral sex. A prostitute would fellate a customer in order to help him 'blow off some steam'. There is sufficient evidence to suggest that by the late 1930s, a prostitute would offer a client the service of a 'blow off job' by asking if he needed to be 'blown', in other words - to release some steam.

By the 1960s, the term 'blow job' for oral sex was used among college men, prostitutes and printed porn. However, the word 'blow job' was solidly equated with 'oral sex' with Andy Warhol's film Blow Job in 1964, which contained a number of explicit scenes, more specifically it depicts an actor's face as he is receiving, yup, you guessed it, a blow job from an unseen partner.

So... that's the history of why it's called a blow job, as 'blow' was originally 'suck'
