Auld Lang Syne means "old times gone by," or "the good old days."

Listerine got its name from Joseph Lister, a British suregon who pioneered the idea of sterile surgery and sterilizing surgical instruments.

I have no idea how this applies to the rest of the world but in the UK this Christmas we had Bank (Public) Holidays in lieu of Christmas Day and Boxing Day on monday and tuesday.
Almost everyone believes that monday was in lieu of Christmas Day and tuesday in lieu of Boxing Day... in fact it was the other way around.

So if you want to make a quick buck with a bet in the pub here's why...
The 1871 Bank Holiday Act passed by Parliament decrees that Boxing Day is to fall on the first weekday after Christmas Day, this year that was a monday and consequently tuesday's holiday was in lieu of Christmas.

Amazing :)

A few weeks ago, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis published a story that quickly went viral, about a Minneapolis astronomy professor suggested the signs of the zodiac are off by roughly a month. Parke Kunkle, a board member at the Minnesota Planetarium Society, told a newspaper interviewer that the Earth's wobbly orbit means it's no longer aligned to the stars in the same way as when the signs of the zodiac were first conceived.

Astrologers say it simply isn't so, noting the zodiac system typically used in the Western world is based on the seasonal equinoxes, not the constellations. The mixup stems from the fact that the zodiac signs have the same names as the constellations.

Kunkle, the astronomer, said he's stunned by the attention he's getting for his comments. He was, after all, discussing about astronomy and not astrology. The professor told the Associated Press on Friday that all the hubbub is based on "2,000-year-old information."

This is good news. There's no way that I'm a Capricorn. I'm too much of an Aquarian :p :D

I'm a Capricorn. how much trivia is that? :cattail:

Happy Birthday!! ;) :rose:

It's very important trivia!

The Capricorn constellation is usually depicted as a goat with a fish's tail. One myth says that when the goat-god Pan was attacked by the monster Typhon, he dove into the Nile; the parts above the water remained a goat, but those under the water transformed into a fish.
Capricorn is sometimes depicted as a sea-goat, and sometimes as a terrestrial goat. The reasons for this are unknown, but the image of a sea-goat goes back at least to Babylonian times. Furthermore the Sumerian god Enki's symbols included a goat and a fish, which later combined into a single beast, the goat Capricorn, recognized as the Zodiacal constellation Capricornus.

Can you explain this...?
My brother was born on the 20th Jan (borderline of Sag and Cap) and my eldest son was born on exactly the same date. I was born on the 7th of Jan and my youngest son was born on exactly the same date.

Yes.

Jupiter was in trine with Mars and orbiting in the seventh house of Chiron that makes Gemini harmonise with Virgo.

Or something like that.

:D

Or it could be coincidence.

The sun is in Aquarius today, which is the eleventh astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation Aquarius. In astrology, Aquarius is considered a "masculine", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered an air sign and is one of four fixed signs.

Aquarius is sometimes identified with Ganymede, a beautiful youth in Greek mythology with whom Zeus fell in love and, in the disguise of an eagle (represented by the constellation Aquila), carried off to Olympus to be "cup-bearer" to the gods. Aquarius has also been identified as the pourer of the waters that flooded the Earth in the ancient Greek version of the Great Flood myth. As such, the constellation Eridanus the river is sometimes identified as a river being poured by Aquarius.

Aquarius may also, together with the constellation Pegasus, be part of the origin of the myth of the Mares of Diomedes, which forms one of The Twelve Labours of Heracles. Its association with pouring out rivers, and the nearby constellation of Capricornus, may be the source of the myth of the Augean stable, which forms another of the labours.

Aquarius Strength Keywords:
- Witty
- Clever
- Humanitarian
- Inventive
- Original

Aquarius Weakness Keywords:

- Stubborn
- Short attention span
- Sarcastic
- Rebellious
- Aloof

Aquarius is the sign of visionaries, unconventionality and intellectual independence. Aquarius are the people who deviate from the crowd and go their own way. They are always after intellectual stimulation, constantly discovering something new, forming new opinions and stubbornly traveling their way regardless of what other people think. Aquarius are filled with paradoxes, they are interested in the opposite ends of the spectrum, they like to be alone yet are social butterflies, they like to experience both sides and see both opinions as they formulate new ideas with their forward thinking, active mind. Aquarius have a 'live and let live' policy where everyone is free to be themselves, an Aquarius never judges others because as human beings, we are all equal and entitled to our own opinions. They are verbally skilled and very witty, they observe people and learn how to interact with others through observation. As a result, they can deal with any type of personality and adapt to any situation. Aquarius would never intentionally hurt anyone, they have respect for every human, even thought this might not seem apparent to the more emotional types.

What can I say? It's the best sign ;) :D

Now I have that song stuck in my head! It's aaaallll your fault!

"Kiss” is from the Old English cyssan from the proto-Germanic kussijanan or kuss, which is probably based on the sound kissing can make.

The insulting slang “kiss my ass” dates back at least to 1705.

Lips are 100 times more sensitive than the tips of the fingers. Not even genitals have as much sensitivity as lips

Passionate kissing burns 6.4 calories a minute. A Hershey’s kiss contains 26 calories, which takes five minutes of walking–or about four minutes of kissing–to burn off.c

I'll forsake the walk :cattail: ;)

Yellowstone is known as a supervolcano and is the world's largest. For many years geologists searched for the crater until one day they realised that the whole of the Yellowstone Park was, scarey.

The other supervolcanoes...

LAKE TOBA, SUMATRA, INDONESIA SUPER VOLCANO
The 1,080-square-mile Toba caldera is the only supervolcano in existence that can be described as Yellowstone's "big" sister. About 74,000 years ago, Toba erupted and ejected almost three times as much volcanic ash as the most recent major Yellowstone eruption (Lava Creek, 630,000 years ago)

LONG VALLEY, CALIFORNIA
Second only to Yellowstone in North America is the Long Valley caldera, in east-central California.
The 200-square-mile caldera is just south of Mono Lake, near the Nevada state line. The biggest eruption from Long Valley was 760,000 years ago, which unleashed 2,000 to 3,000 times as much lava and ash as Mount St. Helens, after which the caldera floor dropped about a mile, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

LAKE TAUPO, NEW ZEALAND SUPER VOLCANO
New Zealand's Taupo caldera has been filled by water, creating what many describe as one of the world's most beautiful landscapes. Last erupted 181 AD.

VALLES CALDERA, NEW MEXICO SUPER VOLCANO
There is a sleeping monster in the heart of New Mexico.
The 175-square-mile Valles caldera forms a large pock in the middle of northern New Mexico, west of Santa Fe. It last exploded 1.2 million and 1.6 million years ago, piling up 150 cubic miles of rock and blasting ash as far away as Iowa. That's equivalent to roughly 2,000 Mount St. Helens eruptions.

AIRA, JAPAN SUPER VOLCANO
One of the most recently troubling calderas in the world is the 150-square-mile Aira caldera in southern Japan, on the edge of which sits the city of Kagoshima.
After a century of peace, the Sakura-jima volcano, which forms part of the Aira caldera, awoke on Jan. 10, 1914, and gave local residents two days' notice of its intentions by letting loose hundreds of earthquakes.

SIBERIAN TRAPS
While a worst-case-scenario supervolcano eruption sometime in the future would be catastrophic for large parts of the world, that destruction would be minor compared with what scientists believe could be the largest lava flow in Earth's history: the Siberian Traps of 251 million years ago.
The gigantic lava flow in Siberia lasted upward of a million years and flooded an area about the size of the lower 48 United States with layer upon layer of dark basalt lava — thousands of feet thick.
Some geologists suspect the eruption was caused by an extra-large plume of hot material welling up from the edge of the Earth's core. But what makes it especially important is that the Siberian Traps is the prime suspect in wiping out 90 percent of all living species 251 million years ago — the most severe extinction event in Earth's history.

It is not possible for a person to lick their own elbow (Yeah, go ahead and try. You know you want to)

A Big Wheel is a type of tricycle, usually made of plastic, with an oversized front wheel, that rides very low to the ground. Introduced by Louis Marx and Company in 1969, the Big Wheel was a very popular toy in the 1970s in the United States, partly because of its low cost and partly because consumer groups said it was a safer alternative to the traditional tricycle or bicycle.

The combination "ough" can be pronounced in nine different ways. The following sentence contains them all:
"A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed."

"X”s at the end of a correspondence letter represent the contact of the lips during a kiss.

Pliny asserts that kissing a donkey’s nostril will cure the common cold.

Common chimpanzees kiss with open mouths, but not with their tongues. Bonobos, the most intelligent of primates, do kiss with their tongues.

Who knew?

Slips, trips and falls are the most common accidents in the home and lead to more than a million people going to hospital annually.

More than 500,000 people are hurt when they strike things (such as walking into furniture) or are struck by moving objects (such as dropping something on your foot) and around 230,000 suffer cuts or tears.

The top three causes of death in home accidents are falls, poisoning and the effects of fire and smoke.
