Honey is the only food that does not spoil. Honey found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs has been tasted by archaeologists and found edible.

The only US President to have hanged a man was Grover Cleveland. He's also the only US President to have gotten married while president.

Coincidence? I think not.

Abraham Lincoln was the only US president ever granted a patent.

Two US presidents - John Adams and Thomas Jefferson - both died on the same exact day.

Men have more blood than women. Men have 1.5 gallons for men versus 0.875 gallons for women.

Hmm..... I wonder why

Your thumb is the same length as your nose.

Now I wonder how many people are comparing their thumbs to their noses! :D

Undertakers report that human bodies do not deteriorate as quickly as they used to. The reason, they believe, is that the modern diet contains so many preservatives that these chemicals tend to prevent the body from decomposition too rapidly after death.

Us and prisons

did you know that 32% of the adult US adult population is either in prison, jail, on probation or waiting for sentencing.

Some interesting facts regarding Octopi:

In Great Britain, March 2008 - While transporting several octopi from a small zoo to another location, the keepers discovered what they are now calling a Hexapus, named Henry. Henry was born with 6 arms rather than 8. He's the first of his kind ever recorded.

The odd thing is, octopus have many neat characteristics such as:

The ability to regrow lost limbs.

They have 3 hearts, 2 that pump blood to their gills, and 1 that pumps blood to the rest of their body.

They have no skeletal structure. The only hard part of an octopus is it's beak.

Octopus blood is blue in color because it's so rich in copper, which is better than iron for transporting oxygen in oxygen lacking environments. The absorption of oxygen actually takes plan in the cell walls, rather than in red blood cells.

They have very intricate mobility in their arms, and have been reported to open hold doors on ships to get to cargo (usually crabs)

Octopus are renown for their intelligence, including problem solving skills, and the ability to differentiate between colors and shapes. Some individuals in related fields claim to have seen octopus "at play" often with plastic bottles in strong currents, releasing and catching them again and again.

They also (both male and female) die shortly after their offspring hatch.

Anyways, I know all these random facts because Henry was on CNN.com. And I followed up shortly thereafter with wikipedia.

Congrats on the 100th post pokerface and welcome to Total Trivia :rose:

Octopus arms are so flexible that they have an enormous number of degrees of freedom, compared with our restrictive elbow and wrist arrangement.

Israeli scientists trying to work out how the octopus manages to keep control of so many flexible limbs think they have the answer.

The octopus, it seems, has some of its intelligence actually inside in its arms.
"There appears to be an underlying motor program... which does not require continuous central control," the researchers write.

Each arm is controlled by an elaborate nervous system consisting of around 50 million neurons.

Alcohol is a good pickling agent too ;)

Eugene-Francois Midocq, a French thief and outlaw, evaded the police for years, turned police spy, joined the force as a detective, and ultimately used his knowledge of crime to establish a new crime-fighting organization, the Surete.

A guy wearing pantyhose on his face tried to rob a store in a mall. When security came, he quickly grabbed a shopping bag and pretended to be shopping, forgetting that he was still wearing the pantyhose. He was captured and his loot was returned to the store.

Perhaps he had a pantyhose fetish? I suspect that many men do ;)

He just couldn't keep his face out of the hose, right?

Right ;)

I wrote a story once, it was tongue-in-cheek and meant as a joke but the guys took it seriously and fantasised it into the top 100 fetish stories here on LIT :D
The research was interesting; in online chatrooms I would ask them what was their desires, and from their replies the story was created :)
