So what's your deal?

We've got the t for tortoise.

An original sig line from Tom Robbins (gotta love anyone who loves Robbins)

Now we've got Tom Waits (another big YOWZA in the you've got your creative mojo fine tuned there, dude.)

So its T for two and you for T?

Who's next? Tom Arnold? Tom Cruise? Hope not, surely hope not.

Tom Tom Club? I could go for some of that right now.

Does it have to be Tom? Can it be Tim? We could do us up some Leary.

Do you know the story of the tortoises on top of the tortoises?

LOL... I changed my sig quote yesterday, and nary a T in sight.

Although... G does rhyme with T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool. G is also the first letter in GaryIndiana.

hmmmmm...

tortoise - with a t and that rhymes with me.....<winking>

Aren't they all supporting the Elephant?

That would be in the Mort books, I believe... the tale I'm referring to is somewhat different.

Akshooly, that's be the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

A very strange fantasy universe indeed.

Wellll......

IN those books, four elephants stand on top of a great turtle named A'Tuin.

The book where there's a giant tower of turtles is "Yertle the Turtle", by Dr. Seuss. :)

Quite a literate group we have here. I never fail to be impressed. *smile*

Turtles and tortoises (and frogs for that matter) do seem to pop up in all sorts of universe affirming roles, don't they?

Here's the story I was referring to:

William James, father of American psychology, tells of meeting an old lady who told him the Earth rested on teh back of a huge turtle.

"But, my dear lady," Professor James asked, as politely as possible, "what holds up the turtle?"

"Ah," she said, "that's easy. He is standing on the back of another turtle."

"Oh, I see," said Professor James, still being polite. "But would you be so good as to tell me what holds up the second turtle?"

"It's no use, Professor," said the old lady, realizing he was trying to lead her into a logical trap. "Its turtles-turtles-turtles, all the way!"

I thought this was the story you were referring to as well, Dilly. My thoughts are often on children's books- lol.

Lots of tortoises in children's books too... maybe they know something that us adults have forgotten?

Did you know that the California desert tortoise is in danger of becoming extinct?

I've had the pleasure of having two tortoises as pets. They are amazing creatures. My last one, Cruiser, learned how to go in and out of the doggie door.

The hybernation thing always freaked me out a bit. I would put him in a box in the closet for winter, checking all the time to see if he was still breathing.
