And it was everything I always had heard it would be. I'm not particularly thick-skinned or anything. I don't like my stuff not being liked as much as the next guy. However, it's really hard to take the insults and PM's calling me a "fagot" or telling me I'm a discrace to "wifes and menns everwehre" very seriously.

So for those looking to take the plunge, realize that most of the really negative comments you recieve aren't exactly going to be Pauline Kael-level criticism.

And anyone who cares to give me any additional criticism or comments I'd be appreciative. Thanks.

God it's nice to read a something written by someone who knows how to use dialogue to let the characters tell their own story. Good job.

It's written better and more thoughtfully than most stories on Lit. It's fairly descriptive in parts, it's good that you describe people's feelings and don't just write the shopping list of things that happen, there are characters and character descriptions and it's good that there's build up and a nice twist at the end.

It amuses me that people get so upset about stories like this. Sheesh if they upset you, don't read them.

If I might make one suggestion: get a proof reader. This sentence:

'"I don't so," he told her, leaning in close, his face inches from hers. ' I assume should be "I don't think so"? That really leaps out.

Other than that, good stuff. Sod the idiots who don't like a particular category!

I never read this topic, but I had to go see what everyone else raved about, but JL thought deserved a 75% (C or 4.0.)

No, nothing wrong with posting the story there. But is it mandatory that it be posted there? Posting a story about a cheating wife in another category isn't necessarily insulation. The LW sharks are known to swim upriver into other waterways, devouring authors who think they're in safe waters.

And once one of them finds you, the rest will follow the blood trail from the feedback portal to gnaw on you as well.

If I did that, I'd miss 90% of my positive comments. Oh, and for years I never joined Lit, but I always commented to stories I liked. I rarely gave negative feedback, but no way on God's green earth was I attaching a name, made up or not.

My goal is to eventually drop at least one story in every catagory, just for the hell of it. This one went to LW as it seemed to fit there better than any of the other dozen stories I'm currently shotgunning back and forth between. I figured I might not get another one that fit, so this was the particular sacrifice I offered up to the pagen LW gods.

I just went back and looked at the copy I got back from my editor, and this sentence is something I changed/edited myself afterwards, probably literally as I was posting it before I hit submit.

Lesson learned: any edits you make post-edit still require a fresh set of eyes
