Too long on "pending"

Hey guys! I submitted a story on 07/27 (and I've checked—it wasn’t in drafts or anything, it was definitely pending). But a couple of weeks passed, and the story was still pending, not even rejected. So, I resubmitted it on 08/12, thinking it might have been a bug or got lost since my stories usually don’t take so long to be reviewed, and no one on the forum seems to be having this problem.

As of today, the story is still marked as "pending", so I decided to ask for advice here on AH. Should I wait some more or send a message to Laurel? I really don’t want to bother her unless it’s necessary. Thanks in advance for any help! XOXO

PS: The story is a bit longer than what I usually write, but not by much—I believe it will be around 4 pages here on Lit.

Did a quick check, so far your 11-11 on that ever evasive red H. maybe she's just really enjoying the story. :)

@Rustyoznail is right, send laurel a polite PM letting her know the same things you've posted here, and asking her to give it a nudge. The times I've done this she has responded very quickly.

Good advice... hopefully it goes up soon. The wait can certainly be a little frustrating. If there's no action, you could also submit the whole story again from scratch from a new form, perhaps with a new title...I have done this before, and it worked. With no real tech knowledge or evidence, I believe story submissions can sometimes be caught in technical glitches of some kind...🤞🤞

What category?

A few of them seem to get batch-processed and the wait is longer. Poems and Illustrated take longer than average, and I understand the recorded vocal stuff always takes awhile?

The category is Lesbian Sex—just a regular story, no illustrations or anything.

True, logging in every day full of expectations only to still see your story marked as ‘pending’ can be a bummer. I’ve considered shortening the story from over 10,000 words to the minimum, but that would be at the expense of your story.

A 750 word story is completely different, conceptually, to a 10k story. I can't see how you could ever edit 93% of the content out of a story to hit the lower word limit. That makes no sense.

I think they meant shortening their story to AS a 10,000 minimum, rather than THE minimum of 750.

You might be right, but what's shortening a story got to do with getting it published? There's no connection.
The belief it will be approved quicker.

There is no relationship that I know of. Only if there is something dubious it takes a little longer to get checked.

I see a lot of short chapters published, one page a time, so what I meant was splitting up my chapter of five pages into chunks of only one page each time, but I would hate to do that, as I dislike reading that myself. But I can see the benefit for someone who has to read it before approval.

I don't think chapter length makes any difference to publication times at all.

I submitted a 104k novel with thirteen or fourteen chapters all at the same time, and the first chapter went live within a week. Laurel then scheduled the rest with 24 hour gaps. On the other hand, I had a 3k story (one Lit page) get lost for ten days, which got released after a PM to Laurel.

For new writers, I think it's always going to be the content that determines time in the queue - pushing up against the content policy lines (either accidentally or deliberately) will get a closer look.

Hello - I am new to the site and I am really finding it to be a learning experience.

Who is this "Laure" everyone refers to? (I also have a story that seems to be stuck in pending.)

Laurel.

She owns the site.

Reach her via PM from the forum, right here.

Laurel is the site owner and Chief Editor. So far as we know, she is the only editor, and all queries are hers to address. To contact her, send a PM. An answer will be rare, but your story should either move to New or you'll get a rejection notice. If that happens, address the questions asked (there's a set of generic responses) and resubmit your story.

New writers should expect to wait at least a week, as your story will get closer scrutiny to ensure compliance with the site's content policies. On occasion, there are technical glitches or stories fall between the cracks. After ten days, I think it's reasonable to send a PM.

You also tend to shed viewers with more chapters, so this could be counterproductive.
