To Write While Aroused or Not?

My problem is that I'm so easily aroused...I mean like all the time...just reading through the prior posts on how people feel gets me dripping hahahaha. As to grammar and punctuation misses when you are aroused...I write and let the words flow and edit later and the again and again, but getting the main ideas down...aroused or not...is key for me...

My only issue with writing while aroused is that I start writing at midnight and all of a sudden it's 9 AM and I've forgotten to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom in all that time, and every muscle in my body aside from my arms are tense then they release all at once which creates a sudden rush of blood and a moment of lightheadedness. Hyperfocus can be intense.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean! That was something else I was going to ask about. When a really hot idea grips me I have gone on writing binges. One time I was so obsessed with a story idea, I wrote for 3 days in a row, and like you said, I was so focused I wasn't interested in stopping for anything. I found it quite annoying when I had to stop to use the washroom or fix a meal! I can relate to the sore muscles after a binge too.

The dangers of writing aroused.;)

I once wrote three full novels in about two months. Wrote a fourth one, too, but I hated it so it doesn't count.

I still don't know how I did it or what I was doing for that time frame aside from giving my husband the first one to read then like two weeks later giving him the second one and he was like, "Seriously? How?!" Then I wrote and edited the third one in about three weeks but sat on it a bit before giving it to him and he was just pissed off because he was still making notes on the first one. He threatened to take my laptop away if I gave him another before he finished the first. So I wrote another and put it aside then wrote about forty short stories while he went through the three novels.

When I'm in writing mode, it's all I can think about and do. Then I get burnt out and switch to gaming mode for a month or two.

VERY often I'll wake up with new ideas. I'll race downstairs and type them out in bullet form, so that I can mess with them later. I usually don't write in a hurry, but then I'm a guy who edits minimally; almost all of what gets published was what I wrote in the moment, aroused or not.

It does happen very easily, depending on the subject I'm writing about and the character I'm focusing on. It happens most easily when I'm writing banter, not fucking.

Whenever I write something erotic, I get turned on by it. I just roll with it and tease myself as I type. My problem is that if I have an orgasm, my motivation to write disappears immediately.

It's not that I write while I'm aroused necessarily, but when I'm rereading or proofreading what I've written, my own arousal is a good sign that what I wrote is good. If reading my own work turns me on, it's safe to say that others will be turned on by it, too.

Part of my writing process is re-reading previous material I've written so I stay consistent in terms of tone, timeline, details, events, etc. Since I write stories about things that excite me... I tend to get excited when I'm going back over my work. Sometimes I get distracted enough to satiate myself but I typically try to use it as inspiration, especially when I'm writing something particularly steamy. "Hot" is a frequent descriptor in the comments I receive for my recent stories, so I think I'm fairly successful in translating my lusty feelings into decent smut. :)

The refractory period is real. :( Mine is fairly short after the first one so I can typically have one then try to delay the next one to sort of "edge" myself and keep myself motivated to write. Doesn't always work but the few times it has I think I've written some of my best naughty prose.

Most of my REALLY erotic writing isn't for my published stories.

But what I have found is instead of getting aroused when I write my stories for publication, I instead fall in love with my characters, to the point that I've gone back to re-read several of the favorite stories I've published and even knowing what I'm going to read, I'll still shed a tear or two at certain scenes. I'm an old romantic softie, I guess!

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and have been writing erotica for myself for many years now. I recently decided that I would like to greatly improve my fiction writing (yes, it needs a lot of work!) and, if I can achieve that, maybe share some stories for others to hopefully enjoy. I'm happy to have found a writing forum that deals specifically with erotica.

I'm curious about how other authors deal with their own arousal while writing a story.

I usually start writing about an idea because it arouses me. That's the motivation - to bring the idea to life on paper which of course is sexually exciting. During this first draft I'm not interested in spelling or proper format. It's all about getting the gist of the idea down on paper and out of my mind (and of course, the titilation that results.)

Sometimes while writing this initial draft the idea is so hot, I will feel the need to "relieve the tension" if you know what I mean. But then I find that my motivation often dissipates quickly and I lose interest, at least for a while. On the other hand, there have been times where the story so captures my imagination (and libido) that even after release I am still interested, though not really aroused. That's when I will focus on the correct, technical aspects of producing a proper story.

Lately, I have been deliberately denying myself gratification, sometimes for days, in order to keep my motivation/excitement going so I can continue working on the story (and keep enjoying the process). It's somewhat uncomfortable but it keeps my interest sustained (when I'm able to do it). I think it might also help me write an actual story rather than just being a feverish brain dump.

It's somewhat of a chicken & egg dilemma. To write a story I need to be aroused but then the quality of the writing suffers. On the other hand, if I wait until I'm not aroused, I'm able to write a better story but then my motivation suffers.

Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

And if I'm not the only one who experiences this, how do you approach this pesky conundrum?
This is exactly the same issue I am facing

A little arousal is a good thing. It usually reminds me to add a little more detail. Too much arousal is damn distracting. At that point, I take a break and go see what Mrs. Royale is up to. 😈

I get aroused most of the time I write. Sometimes I "take a break", and I'm done for a few (4-6) hours. Sometimes I do something productive around the house, and I'm still good to write an hour later.

Like a lot of the others have mentioned, I'm a little bit of both. When I'm conceiving the plot beats, if the action doesn't arouse me, then my erotica isn't hot enough. While I'm writing, though, it's entirely different. I don't write with the intention of becoming horny, but if my prose doesn't make me hot, I can't expect anybody else to feel anything.

This is such a relatable dilemma! Balancing arousal and writing quality is tricky. Some writers separate the process: draft while inspired, then edit later when the heat cools. Others use the tension as fuel, channelling it into the story. Experiment with what works for you, maybe set a timer for focused writing before indulging. It’s all about finding your rhythm.

I do not start out to write while aroused, however it just happens. Most of the things I have written has been based on my experiences, my fantasies, or a friends experiences or fantasies. In any case it is hard not to get aroused during the initial write especially

Writing aroused is fun, the only down side is my technical writing skills get debuffed while I'm excited. But I like to hold off from relieving myself as long as possible cause if I can wait like a week then that one time feels better then a steady week worth of times. I just have to make sure I point it away from me if I go past a week lol.

I do lose motivation after jerking off, and it usually takes a day or two to get my motivation back, but more often than not I find the break refreshes me and restores my 'creative mana'.

It's a good opportunity to knock out some of the more tedious stuff like proof reading for grammar or working on the overall story beyond the sex scenes.
