Does anyone else need to be horny to write smut?

Definitely not. But there's no question it's a different, more intense experience when I am aroused. If for no other reason than because it's my own writing that's arousing me, and that's a wonderful experience.

But I'd guess the majority of my writing is done UNaroused.

Like, I love when the smut flows out, but if I'm not horny, I can't get the motivation going. And when I am horny, it's a fine line between writing and getting myself off. Like, writing smut is constantly edging myself, because once I orgasm, the horny leaves.

Not exactly asking for help or advice, mostly just trying to figure out if anyone else has this problem too.

Not necessarily. There are definitely times when I'm in a 'mood' and don't have the patience to type out a sex scene. It happens. And I can definitely see not being in the mood to write smut after an orgasm. It's like anything else for writing, you need to be in the right mindset. What that is varies from writer to writer.

I understand what you mean, although I tend to find it hard(pun intended) to get turned-on by my own writing. I end up thinking "Fuck, why did I word it that way?" or "I should have brought this up." or "That doesn't sound quite right." Then I'm editing and not thinking about sex.

editing is an entirely different animal. For me, almost nothing kills boner faster.

I agree. Editing is depressing. The problem is, I always go into edit mode when reading my own work. Hence not being able to find it arousing!

Comedy is the same way, when you've gone over it dozens of times you start to question if it was ever funny.
