I sat at lunch yesterday and pulled my writing practice notebook out. It seemed to be calling my thoughts. Out the window a flock of geese were grazing, the sun was bright, and the painter's radio was faintly twanging of unrequited love. I rustled through the closet of my hearts feelings and found myself staring at a small friend whose face I don't recognize yet. The feelings were heavy; I kneaded them with words; the paper was inked with tears.

Yesterday was your beginning.
You were a perfect gift.
The fullness and brilliance of the plan
was shining in your unopened eyes.
All of your tomorrows flashed with promise.
Our bursting hearts soared with pride.
The gift of life - love's passion redeemed.
Today, the bright light whispered your name.
It wasn't your time...
We didn't want you to go.
We stretched our souls to grasp your hand.
We did not consider the price.
We smiled as you returned to us the joy of tomorrow's promise,
the gift - twice redeemed - filled us with hope.
Tomorrow's uncertain sentries goad our doubts.
Winters of fitful nights yearn for spring.
Labors of love nurture this salvation.
The fullness and brilliance of the plan
still shining in your laughing eyes.
We anchor our hope in perfection's beginnings,
the gift of love...redeems life's passion.
thank-you for your loving picture,
steve
