Right then, hen, let's get tae the bottom o' this American palaver aboot daein' it yersel'. There's this notion they've got intae their heids that if ye want somethin' done right, ye've got tae be the wan tae dae it. It's no' jist for puttin' up shelves, mind ye, it's for raisin' bairns an' aw.Your parents couldn't read?![]()
Look at homeschoolin'. Ye've got a lassie ower there, she's thinkin' she can be a better teacher than a body who's spent years at university learnin' the trade. So, she gets aw the books, buys a globe, an' says, "I'll be teachin' ma bairn everything masel', so they get the best education."
Meanwhile, anither wumman's wee yin goes tae the public school. They've got aw these teachers who are experts in their subjects. They've got classmates fae aw walks o' life. They're no' jist learnin' their sums and their letters; they're learnin' how tae fall oot, how tae mak' pals, and how tae get on wi' folk who are no' like themsel's.
At the end o' the day, who's comin' oot on top? Is it the folk who think they've got tae dae everythin' by themsel's, or the folk who trust their bairns tae navigate the world instead o' keepin' them safe in their ain hoose? I'd say it's the latter, wumman. There's mair tae life than jist your ain faimily.
