Tinks Lamp

*straightens up my lamp, organizes all the books for the day and considers installing a hot tub right in the middle of the living room*

I need some good book recommendations friends.
Anyone have anything for me?

Depending on your interests...

Mystery: Anything by Raymond Chander, to include Poodle Springs

Sci-Fi: Anything by Elizabeth Moon

Fantasy: anything by R.A. Salvatore, not literature, but fun reads. I'm particularly fond of 'the Highwayman".

Urban Fantasy: Kim Harrison is my guilty pleasure.

I love Kim Harrison, only of my guilty pleasures as well.
I'll look into the others as well.

Also a fan of James Patterson.

Patterson has several that aren't detective/crime based. More human nature stories. They are really good as well.

Hey Lynzee. I suspect you can find lots of quiet corners in the lamp for reading. It's up there as one of my favorite activities.
I just picked up Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. What are you reading?

I like the lamp for quiet contemplation.

My introvert is showing. I'm supposed to go to a party later tonight. I really like the people hosting. I know that once I get there, I will likely have a wonderfully fun time.
I have to bring nothing and we were invited to "come as you are" meaning I could absolutely go in my yoga pants or a cute little dress and no one would bat an eye. These are good, fun people.
I don't want to go. It's cold out. I want to stay inside and read my books and wander around online, eat popcorn and do... nothing. Maybe discover what the natural habitat of the tree frog looks like or learn how to train my goldfish or whatever, but not go outside and be around people. I was actually looking forward to this party for over a month because it will be a lot of fun.
Except now I'm "overpeopled" by the holiday and it just seems overwhelming and hard and like way too much everything.
If I don't go I'm going to disappoint people. If I do go, tomorrow might be an awful day.
I'm on vacation, I'm not supposed to have to make complicated decisions!

Here are my feeling on this.

You already have your answer.
You don't want to go.
You know what you want. You want a quiet night in, you want to please yourself.
Yes you looked forward to it but you are allowed to change your mind.
Yes friends will be disappointed but if they are true friends, they will forgive you as quickly.

*grumbles a bit* I’m going to the party. I just found out that the hosts in question made a very complicated special dessert because I’m going to be there, and I know she did it just for me. I can’t NOT go now.
I’m going to take a cab though so I can have cocktails too.

That happens to me a lot too.

I feel you. Sometimes the last thing I want to do is leave the house. I have to practically force myself, even when I know I will have a good time once I am there. Just think of it as a change of pace, a momentary "something else" against which to contrast the rest of the days.

You aren't alone Tink, everyone feels like that at times and it helps to step just outside your comfort zone from time to time.
Tomorrow morning you will be pleased with yourself for going and having a good time, and we will all be proud of you as well. :rose:
